My guess is that Matt will be torn between getting these out quickly to beat Kato and taking the extra time and money to retool a correct cab and try and get a production slot in the distant future. Do you wait a year to get these out? Some would be willing to wait to have it correct, but a LOT won't care and want it now.


I don't know why, but the Conrail paint scheme just seems meh on that GEVO. I know it wasn't exactly all that flashy of a paint scheme to start with, but I think if Conrail were still around today they would have progressed with the evolution of their branding on their rolling locomotive billboards.

Still, cool to see it done and kudos to NS for the hat tip to their heritage.

No, it's basically the same as the FVM model.  There is no GEVO or Dash-9 with a high headlight (or rear ditch lights for that matter).  I would imagine Kato will be all over the SD70ACe units.

The caption on that Facebook photo says the CNJ unit is next in the NS paint booth at Chattanooga, but the list says the CNJ unit will be an EMD SD70ACe, which are not being painted by NS.  Either they've switch up the units or the guy posting the photo is wrong.

Edit - Looks like the guy got his states mixed up; a previous post says the Central of Georgia (CoG), not Central of New Jersey (CNJ), is next in the Chattanooga paint booth.

Yes, CofG is supposed to be next in the DeButts Paint shop.....if the paint is ready. This is from someone who is very much involved in the project but not a decision maker.

It was a Southern Ry. thing, i.e., a check code for accounting and maintenance purposes, I believe.  Remember, the Southern was a conglomeration of a number of roads, and the locomotives of these roads were used system-wide, creating a nightmare when keeping track of the locomotives.

By the way, I like that bicentennial high-nose SD45 (N&W #1776) that #8099 is coupled to even better!
