My gut says another passenger train to qualify as a doozy.

They went east for a while, so while it could be the CoNO or even the Capitol Limited, my guess would be GN or NP, or something back west.  If its Amtrak era, then the Auto Train wouldn't be out of the question. I think thats iconic.

My vote is going to go towards the E-60CP. Although if it is the AEM-7, they can start to compete with Athearn producing commuter trains, with releasing the AEM-7 in Amtrak, MARC, SEPTA liveries, and a NJ Transit foobie.

Practically told straight out it will be something from the west, probably UP
   and something seen "east west, north and south"
Most iconic class-I loco in US...
Only unretired class-I steam loco in US (that's right it was never retired)
Seen on TV, etc...

Surefire commercial success - even with non UP modellers

I'd bet my remaining Atlas Code 55 track, but it's all gone now!

Pretty much my feeling also. They were pretty quick to shoot down the idea of any new steam last year when asked, what better way to hide the fact that you are working on one. It would also allow for more sales of the E's and other various loco's stuck randomly in the consists depending on the train size. They have many of the cars already, tooling a few new cars for the generator cars wouldn't be that hard.

Way off in the back of my mind, the Freedom Train would be pretty slick too. Not sure how they would deal with the display cars though.

Long over due . Zero excuse not to have been done in the last decade or more . It would be interesting see how Kato's steam details match up to the latest offerings by other manufacturers . Bring on the FEF-3 finally .

The Hiawatha could be a shot over the bow to FVM after Matt scooped them on the Gevo's.

BTW - The HO Hiawatha showed up at the shop Tuesday.....very nice. It bodes well for the N scale version.
