I heard that Kato was going to make an N scale Thomas the Train with a Mikado mechanism, and instead of the chuffing sound, it has a built-in announcer guy telling us what Thomas is going to do, to whom, when and where.

Plus, to go along with their passenger commemorative sets, Kato is making entirely new tooling of freight and passenger cars depicted on the show.

I can see it now, a Thomas crawling along the tracks at 2 ties per hour with that big-eyed smile on the front of the boiler.  too much.

Ahhhhh, sighhhhhh, it is at least better than their GS4........

Whats the point...Thomas is all CGI now. Just got the latest DVD for my 2yo son for his bday and not a single real train in it.

I think Ian may have stumbled onto something here - Kato will be releasing a virtual Kato (CGI)! (still only available in UP, BNSF, PC and GN though)

Wow, I never thought I'd get to shoehorn this into a thread.

Thanks Richie!

(Please note that the video is going on 12 years old now).

Maybe it's a Baldwin Diesel of some sort.

Sorry about that, I'm sure the world felt that time you didn't do anything.  It was supposed to waste three minutes of your life but the uploader dropped the last part.

But that's been corrected.  ;)

Since this is probably the last time this video sees the light of day, I'll endulge myself.

So Charlie thinks it's a Baldwin, though not an AS616.  I didn't think there were many other 6 axle Baldwins produced in any significant numbers, especially for the UP, though I think one DRS 6-4-1500 ended up with them.

I recall Charlie doing some leg work for someone re Baldwin locos a while back, maybe that has come to fruition, I would however doubt that's the Kato surprise doesn't seem to fit with how they operate.

Oh Man!!! An AS616 just might cause me to lose control! Charlie was working with a guy, Mark Runyon I think, on a Baldwin Centercab switcher he still swears somebody will do this year. EJ&E Centercabs would most cool, but an AS616 would be outstanding!

However, I'm not that lucky.
