Got my notice my SP and NS units shipped. No way I was going to get any UP or CNW Rivet Counter units; they would make my Katos look bad by comparison.

  I'm keeping my katos.  I'll run mine together.  The rivet counters arent perfect but close!

Did anyone order a BNSF 5017 Rivet Counter, and receive it yet? It's totally different than the other repaint numbers that they are doing as it was painted at MAC in KCMO. I ordered mine from the LHS, so they haven't arrived there yet. And the answer I got from Drayton was a little confusing and didn't really help.

When I saw the news of the sale, 5017 was the only one left available to order with sound.  I ordered it and it just came today.  I don't know what makes the prototype 5017 different, but if you describe it to me, I can see if it is apparent on my model.

So here it goes.

Numberboard font is smaller and different
Cab and rear numbers are a thicker font
Headlight bezel should be orange
Dightlight rings should be yellow
Nose yellow/black stripe should be straight, not a gradual curve
Orange windshield wipers

I hope yours comes without damage. I swear I have the worst luck with ST models. My trio of SP units arrived, and the first thing I notice is a set of MU hoses lose. Then I realize the whole locomotive is not sitting the cradle correctly. Open the cradle, exhaust stack is popped off, the snow plow is popped off as well. Open the second, not as much carnage as the first, but one of the grab irons behind the AC box is missing and was found on the other side of the long hood stuck to it because of the magnetic pull I assume. The third looks to be completely fine, but after I pulled all three out of the box and set them down, I pretty much walked away.

Anyways, I'm attaching a couple pics of BNSF 5017 so you can see the differences. I did take pics of the SP stuff but yea. I'm pretty disappointed at the moment. It would make the third time I've had to send something back to them for repairs. UPP water cars had issues, one of my GECX T4s had issues, and now this. I love their stuff, but yea. I'm hoping my other trio of SP units and BNSF 5017 I ordered from the LHS aren't damaged.

Here are my observations on my example:

Numberboard font is NOT smaller and different, at least to me.
Yes, Cab and rear numbers appear to be a thicker font and a bit larger.
Headlight bezel is silver.
Ditchlight rings are also silver.
Nose yellow/black stripe appears to me to be a gradual curve and not straight.
Black windshield wipers.

Good news is that there appears to be no damage and loco runs as expected. I also have had to send two locos (T4s) back to ST for repair/replacement. To their credit, they were super responsive and I received the locos back quickly.

I am now a little surprised that ST decided to do 5017 as those differences are indeed fairly noticeable and they seem to try to be road number specific, at least in HO scale I think.

While I haven't seen the ST model in question, I do seem to recall a few occasions where manufacturers picked a loco number that had some sort of paint scheme or body detail oddity that they didn't capture, or they modeled the entire run after the one loco that had the oddity. Seen it with numbers of steps in stepwells with one model and the position of flank lettering on another, to name a couple.

Took delivery of a trio of SP locomotives Monday and finally got around to inspecting them closely this morning. I ordered a pair of rivet counters, one with sound (emailed ST to find out which ESU file they are using yesterday), and an operator version as all my other ST are rivet counter. All mine have all details attached, etc. so no problems to report aside from some minor inaccuracies on the grab irons: the nose grabs are gray rather than red and on both the long grab irons above the windows are red; later ones should be gray. Switch took place around road no. 8150.

Other than that, they look quite nice and I am looking forward to running them.

I imagine not being seated correctly, and subsequent forces applied to the various details, was the cause of most of that damage. Most unfortunate, and hopefully ST will sort things out for you quickly.

Somewhat off topic, do you know what horn type the SP units came with? My Strapac reference book is not immediately available and I haven't yet found any reference in my online searches.

It should be a new cast Nathan P3. I was told a few years back the original cast broke, and the new cast didn’t sound exactly like the old one.
