Agreed - I think.  These do look good, and will fit in nicely with their MP15 brothers.  Now where'd I leave my airbrush?

I know it's a strange comment, but that chain on the dropstep looks really nicely done. Possibly one of the best renditions I've ever seen in N.

The stripes look much better than the original renditions too.

Remember.. Black is a slimming color while Blue makes you look fat 

But seriously..   The MT tooling looks as good as or better than the Atlas model..  Micro Trains seems to have more refined details, and wins hands down on handrails!

I like... I'm excited!!!! And roller bearing trucks (coming) are icing on the cake!

I finally was able to get my FTP program working and uploaded some more comparison shots.  When compared to the Atlas MP15, the size discrepancy between the two hoods is noticeable.  Well to me anyway.  The correct hood should be tall and narrow and the MicroTrains SW1500 just has the proportions of a Twinkie.  The bottom line is that some modelers will find that the MicroTrains engine is good enough for them and run with it.  Others will kitbash or find another way to get the SW1500 of their liking.

If anything I think this actually makes the model look better. I mean it may be 3" wide, but not nearly as wide as we were expecting. I also don't see major issues with the dimensions, even when looking straight onto the front. I would be interested to see how the hood compares with the LL SW1200 or Con-Cor SW1200 hood width.

This seams like a winner to me. I'll be order both Conrail numbers when they arrive.

Also... when will we have undec shells available? I would like to convert some older LL SWs.

In such a direct comparison the hood width difference is very apparent (even though the MT shell is painted black, which is a "slimming" color).  I think that if both models were gray, the difference in width would be even more apparent.  But I suppose that if the MT model is not sitting next to the Atlas one, the fact that the hood is overly wide will not be noticeable.

Like I said, for some it will be a winner and for others it is not good enough. It all depends in what your modeling tastes are.  I detail the crap out of my models and like them to be as correct as possible. This dimensional discrepancy is a deal killer for me. I see it when I look at the model and it sticks out like a sore thumb. But then again, like I mentioned way back in the other thread, I ran these every day at work so I guess I view them a little differently.  By the way, they were great engines to use in the yard!

Not we, Tonto. It's pretty much what I figured it would be. I'm not sure where you got the 3" from.
