I finally was able to get my FTP program working and uploaded some more comparison shots.  When compared to the Atlas MP15, the size discrepancy between the two hoods is noticeable....

Pardon my ignorance, but how wide are the prototype locos in question. I just want to be sure we're not comparing apples and oranges.

I dunno Scott,
If anything I think this actually makes the model look better. I mean it may be 3" wide, but not nearly as wide as we were expecting. I also don't see major issues with the dimensions, even when looking straight onto the front. I would be interested to see how the hood compares with the LL SW1200 or Con-Cor SW1200 hood width.

This seams like a winner to me. I'll be order both Conrail numbers when they arrive.

Also... when will we have undec shells available? I would like to convert some older LL SWs.

While some of the front detail appears to be more fine on the MTL model, I would want to see a prototype front photo before passing final judgement. Specifically, the front grill pattern.

It's not 10' over the hood.  That's going to be over the sills.

Um ok, I started to actually think about what I typed and it didn't make sense to me.  The 10'-0" width doesn't make sense when compared to the standard track gauge of 4'-8.5"  so obviously the website is wrong or I am missing something.  My atlas MP15 clocks in at 6'-0" while the MTL SW1500 is showing 6'-8".  Guess you can't trust everything on the internet!

While I certainly acknowledge anyone's right to desire and comment accordingly that they want 100% fidelity to all dimensions the model, as shown here more than meets my expectations. I do not have the ability when placing the model in the environment it is intended, to see the "x" scale inches it may, or may not be out. Blame it on a lack of prototypical fidelity demand on my part, a "casual" attitude to uber fine details or 50 year old eyes and failing manual dexterity but I'm "good to go" with this model as is.

That said, I also look forward to seeing what some of the master craftsmen around here can do with it to better it.... that's the fun part !

The wording on that site is a little odd. For example they state the walkway width is 4' 7.5" That would be a combined width as the walkway is only about 2 feet wide per side and slightly wider on the ends. I'm not sure how they came up with a hood width of 10' and a cab width of 10'-3"? The cab and side sill width should be the same.  You are correct, if you subtract the walkway width from the cab width you'll end up with the hood width. I see a few other items on the list I question, but they do not have anything to do with the model. Unfortunately, some of the errors could be a data transfer issue, but all in all it looks the site is a good starting point for info on prototype locomotives.

I think they did a good job on the front grill, properly scaling it to fit a wider body while keeping to the prototype.
