Thanks Chris. So basically we're s.o.l for an off the shelf model. :(

The UP units most likely were off the production run, so the display models at the show are an accurate representation of the final version.

I get to wait (impatiently, mind you) for an SP version with Flexicoils and ...hint hint hint... light packages. Hopefully.

If the the information is correct, http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/14713 , you will have the number board and flexcoils but no light package.

But.... Joe/Shipsure did say on Reply #34 on: March 05, 2014, 04:55:30 PM »

Flexicoil trucks and light package for the SP, plus the alternative version with the handrail on the shell is phase two.  This modified chassis will fit the standard SW1200/9 series just fine.  Digitrax is will be doing a drop in decoder.

I'm hoping the release includes all the lights

Well the MRH info is from mid 2013 back in the maybe DCC era, and with as much egg has been thrown at face of MT on this project, I'm sure they have rethought their plans plans on the future of this model.  I'm sure Joe is a pretty accurate source.  ~Ian

I had the pleasure to meet Joe in person on Saturday. Among many other things, we talked about the SW1500 project and the SP details. I'd like as many SP details available and I know he's doing his best. I'm looking forward to seeing them when they are ready.

Yup, it was great meeting Ryan as well.  Always nice to meet reasoned, rational, realistic N scale modelers :D

Note...and I am sure I will have to repeat this over and over again, but I am working to include as much of the lighting package for the SP SW1500 as I can.  More when we get closer to working on that version.  It will require either new slides for the cab and the nose or separate parts that are applied during production.  Still a ways off till that is done.

We are also making our own AAR Truck with roller bearings that will be released on the UP version...I am sure we will run black ones for the two or three who need to swap out their NS versions..

Light pipes will be on the UP as well (as of today's production meeting)...again available separate.  I don't know any details but will post them when I get the memo from Management.

Sweet good to hear.. don't forget about everyone who wants roller bearings on their sw1200s!  And extra flex coils for those modern so units...  I hope your efforts bring new life into the sw8/9/1200 as well...

Joe, I have to say, I really am impressed with MTL's efforts in terms of getting these locomotives right and doing what they can to make sure customers are happy. While some compromises had to be made to keep the cost down, I think MTL has done a great job working around those compromises so that they are minimized and I am also impressed with how much work you guys are putting into the other details now that the basic loco is out
