Interesting they should choose the NW in blue... the shortest lived of the NW paint scheme.  I'd rather see the minimalist "NW" scheme... but then, that's what I remember most fondly.

And what's up with PRR... is the world allergic to DGLE?  I was really hoping that Eric White would have a couple of nice freight locos he could buy off the rack!!

And when they trot out the EL and Reading units, I may have to spend a few moments alone... :)

Hopefully if CSX does go this route, they'll carefully avoid the crap that Mike's Train House has come up with for WM...  Blecch.

The trick will be finding an appropriately broken down SD-9 to put the PC markings on.-

With a smoke generator and simulated "road failures."

so allow me to see If I read this right.
my understanding was that conrail did not get any trademark rights
when they were formed.  ok I accept that some how I was misinformed.
you know government takeovers.... the truth gets trampled etc...

Now... you tell me that NS got those rights when they bought their bit-o-conrail.

From the reading the Fed's documentation yes. It does look however that Penn Central Company retained trademark of Penn Central including the mating worm logo... which became American Premier Underwriters, and then in 2006 its railroad assets were sold to Midtown TDR Ventures LLC. So I don't know if they still hold any trademark or where it fell off long ago? (anyone...anyone... Bueller?)

The C&O shops in Huntington specialize in those installations...

I'd put CNJ on the list before NH....

CNJ is a MAJOR part of the mainline from Allentown to NJ - namely the Delaware River Bridge.

Major fail if CNJ is ignored!

I don't think it matters much what model they choose, just so long as it strikes a classic PC pose:

Judging by the number of people that first posted in my topic in the N scale forum I'd say that there are still a number of people not reading all these sub forums. I'll take my demerit though as I should have known better. :)

According to an email I received a few weeks ago, the unit designs selected for building at EMD/Progress Rail are:
Pittsburgh & West Virginia
Savannah & Atlanta
Penn Central
Reading
Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia
Erie
Virginian
Central of Georgia
New Haven
New York Central

The company I work for supplies the paint to EMD. We should be starting the color matching for these units pretty soon, since the first one is to be built at the beginning of April.

Based on the earlier posts, I'm guessing the Pennsy unit will be an ES44AC. I would bet it will be painted in Altoona, which is too bad since I was hoping I could get my hands on some PRR color standards. I'm a little surprised it will be Tuscan Red instead of DGLE.

If anyone has color standards or color chips for these railroad colors or knows where they can be obtained, please let me know.

Thanks,
Scott

Most wore Imron paints so color codes should still be on file.

Couple of thoughts...

- Are any of the current GEVO or ACE models correct for NS? More importantly, these heritage units are brand new units which probably have additional changes.

- 18 units is actually a lot. So long as there aren't any tooling changes, then the cost to Kato or FVM is in pad printing setups. I'm guessing that Union Pacific modelers are probably more prolific than NS modelers. While you can't ever seem to discount collectors out there that will buy anything, I have to wonder how much sales success Kato or FVM will have with so many different models. Especially since FVM and Kato both have GEVO models - it will be a race to see who can get them out sooner.

I think it is very cool to give the nod to the history behind the railroad and applaud NS for doing this. Hopefully BNSF thinks about it as well.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Southern has no plans to use special road numbers for the 18 heritage units detailed on yesterday's News Wire. With only 10 SD70ACes on order, their road numbers will be NS 1065-1074, while eight ES44ACs will be selected from the 25 units currently on order that will be numbered NS 8091-8115.
