Third cousin, twice removed.....???????????? :ashat:

That's how I feel about much of the list but I don't want to start anything.  ;)  With the New Haven though, does NS even run on their old tracks?

I think these will be cool, but just like the IAIS Rock Island scheme, I'm not sure 'heritage' applies.

No, I'm not. And why in every single post do you have to doubt someone's reply or thoughts?

you could take it personal ....
and decide I never believe YOU.

logos and other trade marks do not follow with the equipment and real property.
something UP discovered....

ok, you say you know, I can't find that information.
so tell me something I might be able to follow up and confirm.

If Erie get SD70's I may play along. I really don't like newer GE's.

From the release. At least they intend to stay true to the fallen flags schemes.

"NS plans to recreate the paint schemes as accurately as possible. By contrast, UP used the old railroads’ logos and colors, but created new interpretations on the old liveries. ".

I get the feeling I'll be biting on a few (cougn, EL, cough) if Kato and/or FVM does them.

It's not about the paint schemes, I just think they are extending the heritage tree a few too many branches.   Just as I wouldn't expect UP to do a M&StL or CGW even though neither went bankrupt and both are only one merger removed from the CNW/UP merger.

But I also think 18 is way to many to make it special, so I'll stay out of it and just look forward to what everyone thinks when they finally do them.  It should be some good reading.

edit: I was just thinking that any of you NS modelers should petition the NS to do these schemes on some locomotive not made in N yet.  18 plus the normal NS schemes should be enough to warrant some new tooling.

Actually, he is right. If anything NS would owe royalties/licensing to CSX for the NYC scheme should CSX so decide to go that route.

Just because you can't find the information doesn't mean it is not out there, and when people reply to your posts lately you have been pretty dismissive.

Regardless;
PRR - NYC in the modern day, created in 1998, forming Pennsylvania Lines LLC and New York Central Lines LLC. The LLC's had their reporting marks, trademarks, etc passed onto them from Conrail during the formation of these companies, and were approved by the STB under docket FD_33388_0 (aka Decision 1). The holding companies had their own boards, until absorbed into their respective creative/parent companies approved by STB under docket FD_33388_94 (aka Decision 2) in 2003. CR's 21% remaining share of TTX was also transferred to NYC 10% and PRR 11% at the time.

There is also much more in The Men Who Played With Trains.

Jason, the NS-PAR "Pan Am Southern" has trackage rights on the New Haven-Springfield route, as well as ownership on several former NH branch lines.

Hmmm, a thread about how Kato won't make an Alco S2 in east coast paint schemes.... If you can fit a K4 in there, I'm in.  :D

The trick will be finding an appropriately broken down SD-9 to put the PC markings on.-

so allow me to see If I read this right.
my understanding was that conrail did not get any trademark rights
when they were formed.  ok I accept that some how I was misinformed.
you know government takeovers.... the truth gets trampled etc...

Now... you tell me that NS got those rights when they bought their bit-o-conrail.

oh and go buy the book "The Men Who Played With Trains"

I'll see If I can find it in a library.

please don't harbor any illusions that I believe you.
after all,  I never believe anybody.

Norfolk and Southern Heritage Units

Saw this on the news wire at Trains...

- - - - - - - - - -

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Norfolk & Western/Southern merger in 1982, Norfolk Southern plans to honor many of the railroads that make up the present day NS system. As Union Pacific did a half-decade ago, NS plans to create a fleet of heritage locomotives, though NS’s plans are bigger: 18 units honoring a wide variety of predecessor roads.

The locomotives will be 10 SD70ACes on order from EMD that are being constructed at its Muncie, Ind., plant, and eight ES44ACs from an upcoming order for 25 units from GE. While EMD will paint all 10 heritage units in-house, NS forces will paint the eight GEs. The railroad’s Altoona, Pa., shop will paint five, while the Chattanooga, Tenn., shop will handle three heritage units.

The 18 predecessor railroads selected for heritage paint are:

•   Central of Georgia
•   Conrail
•   Erie
•   Erie Lackawanna
•   Lehigh Valley (red)
•   New Haven (not definite yet)
•   New York Central
•   Nickel Plate Road
•   Norfolk & Western (blue)
•   Penn Central
•   Pennsylvania (Tuscan Red)
•   Pittsburgh & West Virginia
•   Reading
•   Savannah & Atlanta
•   Southern
•   Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia
•   Virginian
•   Wabash

NS plans to recreate the paint schemes as accurately as possible. By contrast, UP used the old railroads’ logos and colors, but created new interpretations on the old liveries.

Matt from FVM has already posted a link to this on his Facebook page and I would assume Kato will give this a hard look as well. Interesting to see how the schemes turn out.

I predict the PRR contingent won't be happy no matter what they do.  :D :ashat:
