I guess you get the intel where you can... I was talking to a visitor at our local historical society this afternoon. He was picking up some of our collection excess for the Monticello Railway Museum. He said NS has been talking to their people about their F7 in Wabash paint about using it as the pattern for the heritage version.

Kinda funny that they'd announce a SOUTHERN unit since they've had one since the previous century. :P

Weren't there still a couple CNW units around when UP did theirs?

Dunno. Probably. But NS painted a GP59 in SOUTHERN green in 1994. I doubt if UP painted any units up in CNW before the "heritage" thing.

As an update though, I just learned that GP59 4610 is recently back in black.

Couple of thoughts...

- Are any of the current GEVO or ACE models correct for NS? More importantly, these heritage units are brand new units which probably have additional changes.

I'm not sure about the ACE's but for the GEVO's the answer is no.  The major problem is that NS specs the headlights on the cab roof instead of the nose.  There are other less obvious differences in the venting grills and the lack of ditch lights on the rear.  I believe both Kato and FVM GEVOs are now wrong for any new unit in respect to the nose access door since it switched sides of the cab only recently.

The UP still has two unpatched C44-9W that are still in CNW paint, one being the 8701. There are other CNW patched units in revenue service, much like SP units. I had heard a rumor that the CNW heritage unit has since been painted into the drab yellow of the UP. Can anyone confirm this?

Edited to add: Ya I'm late to the party on this one, didn't even see this fourm untill my post got moved to it.  :ashat:

Oh man... if Kato or FVM jumps on these (which is almost 100% certain) my wallet is going down in flames...  :o

What an insane feast of eastern roads....

Ok figured it out, The Railroad News forum is only visible if you are logged in when you hit the site.

For me (and assuming some others) You hit the site, look around then if you want to post, you need to log then, so you will never see it….

Would explain all the posting in N Scale Forum on it.

Let the discussion begin!!!   (I think this is a fantastic plan, kudos to NS - but still it's fun to discuss what could or couldn't have been done differently!)

NKP - Eric, here's an excuse for modern power!

Some of these look nice, but its really shows how . . . interesting . . . modern railroad history is that NS considers PRR an ancestor . . .
