May pick-up one in WP if they do the as-delivered scheme. I'll have to check references to see when orange-on-green came into play.

The PC units look beautiful, but do they look beautiful enough to replace my fleet of Atlas units? The Atlas GP40 is one of their nicest models, after all. Time will tell.

I have already decided the Atlas fleet is going off the roster. They are OK, but not great IMHO. The only slight hesitation is that I do like the red and white logo Atlas unit.

Interesting indeed (I was hoping for something to usurp some of my wide-bodied 1990s tooling). I agree that the Atlas GP40 is nice, though it is one phase - take it or leave it.

I can make a good model with the Atlas GP40, so I am not stressed by this announcement.  (Luckily for me, ST did not announce N&W Geep 40s).

I am sure ST will tempt me on some future releases.

This is a good choice for ST imo. This opens the door to the entire EMD four axle 1966 line and their -2 replacements... with road specific details. It's good to have more than one option for these units, and although there's nothing in this release for me, I bet there's some elated WP N scalers out there today. I will quietly hope for some blue B&O and Chessie units in the 3700 series someday, being seen daily in Toronto while on lease to CP circa 1988 iirc.

The real question now is... shall I begin lobbying ST for a GMD GP40-2L?

I am excited for several reasons.

1. A fuel tank that looks like a fuel tank.
2. Different fuel tank sizes.
3. Extended-range dynamic brake options.

We've needed those things for quite some time.

Well the GP40 can share the existing GP30 mechanism. I’m hoping tomorrow we will see an AC6000 for the 90’s era announcement as it can share the existing six axle GE mechanism they have.

When I really focused on modeling the WP 20 years ago, I liked the Perlman green units because that is what I saw in California.

I wish (and I apologize for this being one of "those" whiny posts) they had offered WP units in the orange and silver scheme. The greeen is easy to paint but the silevr and orange requires a bit more finess in N (kind of like Southern F unit snouts)...

Well the GP40 can share the existing GP30 mechanism.

They are actually different lengths, so while many of the parts are the same (like the trucks and motor), that is technically incorrect.
