I keep asking this question but never get an answer: what's the era for that big Reading spelled across the whole side boxcar? Ed?

@OldEastRR

1967 (Jan)

1969 (Feb):

40' car repainted in 1969:

Highly unlikely that any of these would be weathered like the MTL car in the 1970s - it would have to be 1980s or later.

Trying to get my @BCR 570 Merit Badge with the power distribution power for CP Loucks.

It's intended to make attaching detected sections easy, to hold the DS52 for the interlocking, and to send power off to the yard (via a DCC Specialties PSX circuit breaker). Of course, you may be asking "where is the PSX?". Well... I forgot to include space for it, but it'll be hanging off the right up top where the two tap terminal block is.

Amusingly, as I was typing this I changed my mind to go with the PSX instead of the OG because they're in stock at Yankee Dabbler.

As a reminder, the panel supports this track layout. Spots 1 & 2 will come off the right side of the board, 3-6 on the left.

I'll have two detection channels unused for now, but I'm sure I'll find something to use them for. Probably in staging, now that I think about it.

Yeah, I figured it was past my 1954 cut-off date because it's bold and big scheme. But sure looks nice. While adding a adequate selection of NH prototype cars to my NH layout, I noticed I didn't have many 50' boxes. The NH didn't have any till the '60s, which is probably why i overlooked them. . But obviously other roads didn't wait  and I'm looking for suitable candidates. Since the NH seemed to have every other railroad's cars on it at any time, I'd like to get some distinctive paint schemes. I was lucky to find a Fox Valley ribbed-side 50 footer with the Hiawatha slogan on it  -- but I'm not looking for multiples of each car. I know whenever train shows start up again I'll have lots of 50' boxes to choose from of all mfgrs who made them from the 60's thru now, so I'm not worried.

This photo gives me the heebee geebees. Yea, DCC, just attach two wires and you are good to go.

Ed, that is an impressive tree, roots trunk and branches.  :o

Well... I mean, it can be that easy.

But I'd hate to imagine the server rack required to do everything this panel is doing in DC.

There are 8 blocks worth of detection, 8 blocks of power management (circuit breaking) and turnout controls for a total of three remote controlled switches. That's a LOT going on. But then again, that's east coast railroading for ya  :D

DCC can be pretty simple.

CTC/signalling is bloody complicated.

Plug your PSX in, take your PSX out.
Put your DS52 in, burn your DS52 out.
Wire up your junction, run your trains through, that's what it's all about.

Do the DCC Pokey.   :)

This guy can't even get a Radio Shack slide switch to control a single turnout for hand throws without minor miracles.  Maybe I should stick to loops?

Ok. We're getting there.

Progress below decks.

And some above decks. Cut down the corner here and got the cork down for the mains.

Now I'm trying to figure out what's going to go into this foreground space. I'm thinking the Metso minerals plant, but there are some other contenders as well.

Ed, your new layout is inspiring. I hope to be cutting plywood soon.

Thanks for the recommendation for How Buildings Learn. I received my copy today and it’s quite interesting.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you... motion!

Ignore the wobbly track. Nothing's lined up or glued down yet. It's just sitting on the cork for the moment. Now that I know this works, that's probably next.

There is a prototype for that:

Looks just like the track that Conrail inherited from the Penn Central!  :D  Seriously, it’s good to see something moving again, even if it’s just a light movement on temporarily placed track, because that shows good progress towards future ops.

Kudos,
