I'm on the fence about those brackets. On one hand, they're SUPER sturdy looking (in the downward direction). On the other hand, they're also heavier than the benchwork they'll be supporting.

Well, I will add that I've had plenty of brackets just like the ones you are currently using on the wall fold up like paper... bear in mind that you may have occasion to lean on the benchwork harder than expected. Wouldn't want you to end up on the floor along with your CR rolling stock...

I'll throw my 2 cents in on the angled brackets, since they came out of my shed   Those came out of my work office, where they held up 2 countertops 30" deep and some 12' or more long.  For 25 years or so.  These were made back in the day when they made stuff that would actually stand the test of time.  Not this chinsey stuff made today.  Drivers sat on the said countertops, pounded fists in frustration, slammed clipboards, dropped cases of water on them without any issues.  Think they'll be fine holding up some 1x material and foam

Oh yeah, well, those were indeed hastily installed and made of glued together 8x11 sheets. I knew they were temporary so didn't want to drop the coin on having them professionally done.

In this case? I'm getting them professionally printed.

I mean, nothing beats Mike Confalone's work with them, and that's really what I'm going for.

That's exactly what I was talking about. Was an accident, but it did happen. I have those brackets in both garages for storage shelves and they have been fine. Just something to keep in mind.

More progress.

First some virtual updates.

After getting some things going, I realized I wanted to try and open up the aisle a bit, so I canted the peninsula back a few degrees so there's only a 36" pinch point at the very end. I also cleaned up some of the looping and added a few more straightaways. Lastly, I started placing some town or location names for orientation.



Next I started doing some benchwork planning for the peninsula. I'm thinking it'll be a version of L girder with risers to support cookie cutter roadbed. Annoyingly, RailModeler Pro's benchwork options suck. So I decided to just use HO track to represent the girders. It generally works. Now I know what I'll need girder wise, at least.



And finally, some actual physical progress yesterday. In addition to stocking up on foam, I also got the deck and supports in for the first lower deck panel.

I like it. Every once in a while I find myself wishing it had one feature or another, but I think that's because I'm used to working in Adobe Indesign which is just a tad bit more expensive.

Not to mention that, in 1985, you had N&W J No. 611 running.  N scale models of 611 are easily acquired and very plausible for excursions on the East Coast.  i've come very close to picking up an N scale model up to 2017 and an HO scale model since for my 1983-86 era.  Again, plausible.

That's actually why I've been thinking of that short staging track at the front as "The NRHS Track".

I was personally thinking about a 1361, but these are all good options.
