At Midnight tonight (1/31) a half a century ago, the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central entered into the worst corporate marriage ever devised.  Yet without it, the changes necessary to ensure the survival of railroading itself might not have come to pass.

To celebrate(?) let's dig through our archives and post up whatever you might have where you modeled the Late Great Penn Central.

Patched out engines, rusty cabooses, or gleaming green boxcars.

My personal favorite now resides in @Ed Kapuscinski 's fleet.  Here it is working some soon-to-be-abandoned mileage on @seusscaboose 's layout a couple years ago.

I love the PC schemes and, even though I don't specifically model the PC, have a few diesels in the black with white logo. I am even in the process of painting one of my Treble-O-Lectric F7's into that scheme.

Considering my focus is Western roads, I seem to have had moments of weakness for PC over the past 50 years. I let the factory air out of some of these, a few were train show "finds" that needed tuning-up to run:

I thought about background music, Barbra Streisand's "Send In the Clowns", but I don't have a video editor on the layout room computer. Shame. :D

It was repainted long ago, the motor died sometime after that, and I don't know if the carcass is still in our old house, but my first N scale loco was an Arnold/Rapido FA in PC, complete with the red and black "worms" logo.  Not bad looking, actually, but I repainted it GN.  It was late 68 or early 69 when I bought it, so the PC itself was new at the time.

I don't see any worms in there. Wires? Yes. But no worms.

I have a bottle (the big 1 1/5 oz. squarish bottle) of Floquil PC Green I bought in 1968 because I had gotten an Atlas Penn Central boxcar kit and wanted to paint the black roofwalk and brakewheel to match the car. I have used it since for a few other PC related things but it's still in perfect condition.

Such neat schemes and colors for an ill-fated railroad.

I started serious railfanning in the PC era. A friend and I would go with cameras, to NE Corridor, Sunnyside. Sadly, as a dumb, older teenager, I tossed a lot of 2-1/4 negs  Back while on the Atlas board, I realized I was missing the "dark era".
