You may want to look at theater/film lighting filters, known in the trade as "gel".  Available in hundreds of colors, comes in 20x30 sheets.  Numerous blue tints- from midnight blue to almost clear- the lighter used for color correction in photography and film, when you need 6000 deg K light and have a 5000 deg K light source.

I've had some success with spraying Alclad tints onto window glass of Kato domes and passenger cars. Theater lighting gels work well plus they're available in a rainbow of colors.

Catching up with photos of some recent projects.  First, Red River Models Ft. Worth Station kit which I am using to evoke the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. A truly massive and amazing kit made up of MDF and acrylic laser engraved parts.  My cell phone photos don't do justice to the fine details. I still need to decide on the sidewalk (I'll probably go with thinner Evergren sheet) and need to straighten that turret roof





The stuff on the roof is an interior window panel that needs to be glued back in.



Next up, Custom Model Railroad's Milwaukee Road Substation.  Laser cut acrylic with self-adhesive compressed paper details which were problematic.







An update on a twenty year-old project.  When I built the Marshall Field's Christmas windows  I cut holes above each window shadow box in hopes of lighting them someday.  That day finally came with the advent of the Woodland Scenics Just Plug LED lights.  I mounted one over each scene.  When I opened the building up to add the lights I was happily surprised to see that the clock was lighted and that I had coiled the leads inside the building when I first built it.

Finally, a future project.  CMR announced a railroad lift bridge at Trainfest.  They emailed me a drawing which I blew up to the actual size of the kit.  It will replace the Walthers double track bridge
when it is released.

Many European trains run with one person in the cab.  It's probably easier for the driver to throw the switches than to try to run a turntable single-handed.  If the wye is used only for turning locomotives, and always in the same direction, those could be spring switches, which would make it even easier.  No need to ever leave the cab!

As always, a lot of inspiring work to enjoy here again this week.  I am grateful for this weekly opportunity to see what others have been up to, and to admire their work.

My goal this week was to get the remaining track for the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Subdivisions laid around the curves to their joint with the first turnouts for Chetwynd Yard.  The track in the foreground is coming west from the Dawson Creek Subdivision, and the track in the background is coming south from the Fort St. John Subdivision:




Dawson Creek Sub on the left; Fort St. John Sub on the right (to be partially hidden by a scenic ridge):




The first half of these curves belong to the Sundance and Septimus power districts, so I was finally able to complete the wiring and terminate the bus runs for these two power districts:




Work Extra 584 on the Dawson Creek Sub, with Work Extra 581 on the Fort St. John Sub behind:




Roadbed and track for Chetwynd Yard can now start in earnest.

Nope, ESM sides,  American Limited core kit, Rapido trucks.  Painted by me, but ESM sold painted sides as well.

Here are some pics of the new Elmhurst Metra Station. The Kato/Faller kit comes with yellow striping stickers, but I opted for some Tamiya striping tape I had on hand.  I plan to add a bit of grey paint to the roof edges as I do not like the brown plastic.  I also need to add streets, parking lots and landscaping.  Plus, quite a bit of weathering.  Its not quite the scratch built station by Mark Dance or even other excellent stations posted this week, but, its coming along.  Daryl
