It has not been mentioned but its worth doing so... easier by a mile to replace whole trucks vs. replacing just the sideframes since you won't have to deal with all the small gears inside the truck itself. This has been mentioned a number of times in the past in threads and articles so I thought I would throw this out here as well.
Rinkadink by comparison to GM&O (which owned the most of both models, GP30s 31 and GP35s 48, all to ICG) and Southern Railway (71 GP35s, 7 others had EMD trucks from trade-ins).It has not been mentioned but its worth doing so... easier by a mile to replace whole trucks vs. replacing just the sideframes since you won't have to deal with all the small gears inside the truck itself. Two of the Southern GP35's with Blomberg trucks were "rebuilt" from wrecked GP30's, both were (re)built with the same road #'shttp://southern.railfan.net/images/archive/southern/gp30/2526.jpg

The rebuilding of the two wrecked GP30s (SOU 2526 and 2641) came later (December '65) and had Ph. II GP35 carbodies, retaining their original numbers.

How does that contradict what he said? Jason
Considering some of the things GN did with steam locos, I can almost see them buying a GP body and stuffing an FT into it...In fact, that's almost what they did. They sent the FT to EMD, and had a new "GP5" built from it, using any part that could be salvaged. The new units were rated at 1350 HP, the same as the FTs. So, in a sense, that is an FT in a GP body.
The SDP40F was actually a result of government regulations, specifically Nixon-era price controls. If EMD had called it an FP40, it would have been a new model, and one set of rules would have applied. By calling it an SDP40F, it became a modification of an existing model, and fell in a different category.
Another good tip, thank you. @davefoxx has hooked me up with with the good stuff! Thank you all for the help!
