The Marshall Field Christmas windows are spectacular.

I got my Ivy Farms Trucking scene a little further along. I had enough of the right color shingles left over from the cafe to shingle the main building (that I just painted). I also repainted the pole barn. Then I weathered all three buildings with some Pan Pastels. Now I need more junk to lay around.

I dirtied-up some otherwise clean cars over the weekend. This was my favorite of the bunch.

Had trouble from some Martians over the weekend.  Pretty epic battle.  In the end, we sneezed on them, and that was the end of that.

Finally, a future project.  CMR announced a railroad lift bridge at Trainfest.  They emailed me a drawing which I blew up to the actual size of the kit.  It will replace the Walthers double track bridge
when it is released.

I'm excited about that bridge! I looks a LOT like the PRR "1920" bridge over the Ohio here in Louisville! I have a Kato double-track bridge I'll be replacing once it's available!

I like the single light source crisp shadow eclipse . You could skewer human naked lady womens on the support beam as if being levitated to the bikini ship of de-light .

An update on a twenty year-old project.  When I built the Marshall Field's Christmas windows  I cut holes above each window shadow box in hopes of lighting them someday.  That day finally came with the advent of the Woodland Scenics Just Plug LED lights.  I mounted one over each scene.  When I opened the building up to add the lights I was happily surprised to see that the clock was lighted and that I had coiled the leads inside the building when I first built it.

My Mom used to take us kids over to Chicago every Christmas season to look at the beautifully decorated downtown store fronts and the highlight was always the Marshall Fields windows.

Doug-- I guess many of us recreate childhood memories with our layouts.  My parents took me to see the Marshall Field's windows, I took my sons there and now we have taken our granddaughter......and I will never call it Macy's no matter what the sign says now.

Jerry-- Good catch on the glimpse of the El structure.  I tried to search my old Photobucket library for a photo of it but only accomplished raising my blood pressure and reminding myself why I don't post there anymore.  I'll try to post a photo of the El in the next few days.

Roger Holmes- please keep posting these wonderful images of your "Chicago."  Marshall Field's was what I thought of the first time I laid eyes on the DPM hotel kit- I've just never finished off a layout to the point of getting the building in place with signage.  On my to do list now that I am retired and building a layout I think I may finish.  Using the Red River station for Merchandise Mart is also inspired.  Is your El courtesy of Imagine That, or did you scratchbuild?

About all I can think of to improve your scene would be a 1/7680 Lionel train set in the Marshall Field's window (paging Mr. Smith....)

I know everyone loves the internet for convenience, but in the old days, you could do all your Christmas shopping in one store in downtown Chicago, in less time than we spend nowadays trying to weed through spam and junk on websites.  Not to mention, no internet retailer has a tea room with Belgian chocolates when you want to take a break from shopping.

Good work everyone! I'm really looking forward to see how that double track lift bridge turns out. It looks just like the bridge the Nickel Plate put over the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland around 1958.

This weekend I drilled the holes for electric feeders and turnout wires (fun!), then put bullfrog controls on the east side of Bellevue yard on my layout. This past Sunday was the first time I've had a weekend off in two months, so I traveled out to Ft. Wayne to help remove some boiler insulation and jacketing on the 765. Everything is cleaned up on the engine, so it's ready for thousands of little kids to inspect it during Santa trains. After the jolly man has left, we'll start the 1,472 inspection of the boiler.

Excellent work on the Field's windows, truly epic .... don't want to be a Grinch but the Xmas interior scenes and the outdoor mid-summer crowd make a slight disconnect for me. It's tough trying to reconcile all four seasons on a single layout, tho.
