Weekend Update 1/31/16

Wow, Tim, that trailer's going to have a lot of wheels!    Seriously, those look really nice, and the fact they're separate pieces will allow much simplification to the painting and finishing.  Good job!

Finished de-spruing the wheel hubs and tyres for my flatdeck trailers:

Not getting a ton of modeling done, as the kids have found my stashed Lego sets and more importantly my kids recently discovered my 1980s era Hot Wheels Railroad sets in my parent's basement.  Took them home, cleaned them up around Christmas time, and I've been slowly accumulating extra rolling stock (since there's never enough for two boys to share).

I'm aiming for more rarer pieces and doing quite well so far cost wise.  The first four in the shot are really tough to find now.  Especially the Pennzoil tanker.

Oh man! Those were some of my favorite toys when I was a kid.

I even wrote a feature for model railroader on one of my more built out layouts. It's awesome to see them living on.

I continued to make some slow progress on a factory kitbash.  I still have interior details and lighting to add.

that's a blast from the past! I had the santa Fe F40-ish locomotive, a GP something Chessie system loco, a basic red caboose, BN Boxcar, and some blue flat car. I also had the Playset that was in a folding case also. I loved those things.

So that I can contribute, have some more HOn30. Minitrains recently came out with a 2-6-2 "trench" loco:

They did a pretty good job I just really do not like the prototype at all 
So I stuck a 3D pilot to the front

Then I cut shortened the cab of a different Minitrains loco and propped up the stock fuel bunker.

Now I moved the side tanks back. chopped and filled the rear sand dome. Knocked out the cab "wood" panels and added "steel". Rounded the cab roof. Narrowed and shortened the bunker.




Just going freelance on this.

Gotta love that square nut trunnion bolt for the front pilot truck, but you have to do something about that floating trailing truck.  did the do a casting for that?

I did change out the pony wheels, used those big BLI wheels.

As for the Hot Wheels, the only cars I'm missing at this point is the Shell tanker, and the Steam Engine (ultra rare).  Kind of fun filling out the roster, and glad to be moving on from Thomas....although that track is way more rugged!

Oh man, I had the steam engine! It was awesome, but somehow I think the coupler to the tender broke.

Damn I loved those things.

Also, that track... my first experience with scotch tape was using a piece of it to hold the ones with the broken "joiners" together on the carpet.

It always amused me, too. I can get a Hotwheels AEM-7, but not an N Scale one...
