More magic from my Z-Scale European friends: Dirk Kuhlmann from Germany is the photographer, and Sven Rohmann from Switzerland is the leader of the project. This captures exactly the lighting of the photo I worked from to build the ship--the ship is a darker blue, but looks lighter due to the sun angle, distance, and the misty bay atmosphere.

having my first ever ops session on my current layout.  been about 5 years in the making,  operated on many but not mine.  Pics to follow. I have to begin my layout engineering post too ran 6 locos at once, very cool.

Also called tracking pads. We use them all the time for getting over wet marshy areas with out having to bring in a bunch of fill to move equipment in.

well the first ops session went pretty good.  i made up the switch lists last night and they held up pretty good. some initial confusion on using the switch panels and figuring out the layout and the industries.  I'm happy everything worked flawless, 




now I have to figure out whats next.

Went to Cresson, PA for some railfanning with R L Smith.  We saw 6 trains in first 45 minutes, then it died off for about 30-40 minutes until just before we left.  Lots of SD40E's in helper service (6300 series, with 6301/6309 tied up at the Cresson engine terminal).

Then headed over to Bedford show, met Ed K and Lee, bought some cars and trees and headed home.

Header image source claims bridge ties https://lionelllc.wordpress.com/tag/track/ but I don't see signs of rails ever been on them . so I am agreement with the crane creepways unless they are all upside down .

Spent a few hours cleaning up and reorganizing the Juniata Shops (i.e., the walk-in closet I use as a workshop).

One thing that really helps is picking up a few of the cheap Walmart "drawer organizers" to keep parts from individual projects together.

If you look at the ones ont the top row, you can see the open space on opposite corners. 
That is where the rods holding the timbers together are used as pick points for lifting straps. 
The holes you see on the outsides are where the threaded rods have the nuts countersunk.

It has been a busy August getting ready for the new school year and both preparing the C&W and helping others prepare their layouts for Vanrail in a few weeks.  I did tidy up a few small projects...{sorry for the "sharp" cell phone pictures.  trying out a new Galaxy}

A) ballast and ground cover in Castlegar





B) laser cut industry signs to mark some of the switching areas and car spots



C) "North Americanized" Tomix lift trucks with the help of etched roll cages graciously sent by Rod (Santa Fe Guy)...thx again Rod!  a huge difference. 



They still need their bodies weathered but that will have to wait until after the National.
