Roadnames for WOT PCF 50' Box Announced...

I'm always IN for Golden West Service and SP/SSW freight cars. I was curious to see which cars these were and found the previous thread with some more details: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=26860.0
For those interested in the SP and GWS, are these the B-70-41 class?

Rats! The Southern Pacific car is an RBL reefer, not a boxcar. I need boxcars, not reefers!


Hmm... I'll take all the
reefers I can get...

RB = refridgerator, bunkerless, i.e. insulated but with no ice bunkers or method of mechanical cooling.
The additional of the L indicates presence of loading devices (moveable bulkheads, partitions, restraint bars, etc.)

Basically nothing more than an insulated box with loading devices.

RBLs were very much liked by plywood and high-quality wood products shippers as they provided maximum protection. AFAIK that's exactly what these SP cars were used for.

The Atlas "53' double door Evans boxcar" is also an RBL car, and look at all the plywood and building products schemes those things came in.

Ah! Learn something every day... even when it explains something I experienced firsthand 40 years ago. Plywood loading! [forehead slap] SP ran scads of these door-and-a-halfs over Tehachapi, back in the days when lumber service dominated the Western lines.

I really don't need any of these.  However, you reference to Homer - if someone made DUFF Beer decals, I would get a couple and apply them to these cars.

Ok experts, modeling the mid atlantic in 1985, which ones of these, and how many, do I need...
How common were the different schemes/cars (ie, the Frisco ones) in different eras? Were these often in east west service, or did they usually stay around the west coast?
I'm imagining it's the former rather than the later.

The same ones I need for Connecticut 1980 - BN and SP.  I'll be getting one SP and one BN variation #2.

Several comparisons with this 1981 image reveal that some lettering sizing may be just a litle off.

On 698781 (a number WOT is oing) in SP paint the roadnumber appears smaller and the SOUTHERN PACIFIC billboard looks bigger and a slightly different alignment. 

While it looks to be the original paint and  shows the original 1968 built date.  It appears that the model received 'standard' SP lettering, although the PC&F applied lettering was all over the map.  Holding my multiple car order to see if they will be correctly lettered for 1984 layout...

Since before BN existed. The squares - maybe even reflective from the beginning - came with GN's Big Sky Blue scheme. The graphic consultants who designed the BN scheme didn't do much more than revise their design and PL&N package to lose Rocky for the B+N logo, and change the blue to green. Oh... and simplified loco painting by killing the white stripe.

Don't know of any Duff Beer Decals, but on my last trip to Italy, 2010, I was staying in the far northern town of Aosta, and at a small place there I got Duff beer labeled in cans just like the ones in the cartoon show. Don't know why they aren't sold here!

Beer that was brewed and shipped on Conrail would most likely have been shipped in insulated Conrail boxcars.  In N scale, that means X58 (ESM), X73/BE55E (Atlas) and B65A (RC foob).  In regards to the WOT cars, those Frisco cars look nice.  Maybe I will pick up two Frisco's and two BN's for food and/or beer service.
