Roadnames for WOT PCF 50' Box Announced...

I looked online before I posted, with no luck.  The published picture is black and white, and quite small, but the major lettering is clear enough.  Basically it looks like any other original-scheme BN car, except for  the GN initials, and the fact that the BN's covered hoppers were in the 400000s.  That is the only predecessor road car I've ever seen, in person or picture, in full BN paint with the old initials.

Very much looking forward to these. I grew up in Southern California where the SP cars were extremely common. I'll find a home for some on my CRR just for old time's sake.

As memory serves I think the beige Frisco cars were in more or less dedicated service for Schlitz brewing for a significant period of time.... Hmmm.. Homer like beer................

That and shipping raisins out of the Central Valley.. Used to trip over them at Selma, "Raisin Capital of the World".

from WOT stated in an email that these would be 'standard' SP lettering.  I'm making a bit of assumption that  this means these will follow the lettering artwork as shown on the WOT website.

Still waiting for the final artwork from WOT (due in November) but considering just how many of these I actually want to sign up for  Should it be necessary to strip and replace roadnumbers and billboard lettering to be accurate I need think about the value.  Calculating my time and effort needed to correct new models means I will buy signifigantly fewer numbers of inaccurate models.  More is always better, but accurate still wins. 

Variety is the spice of life, and the SP boxcar roster reflects that, 'standard' decoration was good enough back in the MDC era, but accuracy is necessary in 2012 to coax Mr. Walet from the comfortable pocket...

No, raisins east, not sure what got backed hauled. SP used SP SSW DRGW and GWS cars at the Bud plant in Van Nuys to ship alot of beer. I can't wait for the GWS and DRGW cars with the big doors on them.

I know I've seen FWD and CS (and BN also acquired brand-new cars in CS reporting marks at one point.)

Does the insulation thickness vary depending on the specification of each road when ordered? I ask because I see cars labeled as 4829cuft, 4993cuft (BN) and 5059 (or so it appears in the linked image) cuft... Frisco 700248 being one carrying the higher cubic capacity.

Probably not, but things like interior load-restraining equipment that's present in the SP cars would reduce the cubic capacity.

Also, the load restraints may or may not actually be subtracted from the cubic capacity of the car. So the same design and nominal capacity could be reported as several different numbers based on whether or not load restraints or moveable pallets considered part of the car are actually subtracted from the capacity in the first place, and if they are, what type of loading devices are actually installed.

Chris:  That's because the FW&D and C&S technically weren't merged into the BN until 12/31/1981.  So, for the first few years, all of their equipment kept its initials.  The CB&Q did the same thing when it owned them, before the merger.

Yep, basically, although the equal-sized double doors doesn't seem to be one of the configurations in WOT's first run.

Thanks Chris, EFC also had a single door configuration which would be one of the ones on offer, I'll email them and see if they have plans to offer that.

I really don't need any of these.  However, you reference to Homer - if someone made DUFF Beer decals, I would get a couple and apply them to these cars.

They could be used on almost any region.  In the movie the say from the top of Mt. Springfield one can see the four states that borders theirs, Maine, Ohio, Kentucky and Nevada!

website SP PC&F boxcar image may have been changed.  Roadnumber and billboard lettering appears to be sized and aligned properly for this class.  Good thing that I have a month to wring some serious coin from Mr. Wallet and place my order....
