That is, aside from the mini-fridge under the layout.

Ok experts, modeling the mid atlantic in 1985, which ones of these, and how many, do I need...
How common were the different schemes/cars (ie, the Frisco ones) in different eras? Were these often in east west service, or did they usually stay around the west coast?
I'm imagining it's the former rather than the later.

Many railroads classified their insulated BOXcars as reefers, but that didn't make them such, just, well, boxcars with insulation. They were used as alternates to regular boxcars where the cargo could be damaged by extreme temperatures. Previously, reefers were used to offer this protection, but why spend the money for icing/mechanical refirgeration if not needed? So, and insulated boxcar does not carry freight that requires refrigeration. So, should you require boxcars, perhaps soem insulated ones would be a part of the fleet?

I can't speak for certain on these specific cars, but I can state that in one of my Seaboard Coast Line videos, it was clear that the SCL interchanged with the Frisco, and a lot of Frisco rolling stock (and even a good number of pooled locomotives) came all of the way east to Hamlet, NC in the 1970s.  If I remember correctly, Burlington Northern merged with the Frisco in 1980, so it's likely this route now added BN interchange, too.  My modeled area in the mid-1980s is not too far south of Hamlet, so I plan to take advantage of the ex-Frisco and BN reefers for service to my packing and produce plant in Aberdeen, NC.

I'm not too sure if the cars went north to Baltimore, but that's certainly not a stretch to take SBD rails to Richmond, Virginia; RF&P to Arlington, Virginia; and B&O or Conrail to Baltimore, Maryland (assuming there isn't a more convenient route from BN to the Northern Central, which there likely is).

Funny, I was thinking the same thing, but keep in mind, a brewery on CR shipping product out would more likely use CR cars. That's why I bought some of the RC 60' cars (even though the doors are wrong, I can live with it), and should probably get a few more.

There is a nice summary of products hauled in these cars on the referenced WOT link. This is almost like two new models as the doors are very different. Looks great.

I definitely saw the SP cars on the CR in the 1980's...   But I think these all went to the Greenbrier/GWS rebuild and then back to SP in UP days.

It doesn't have to be as complex as a brewery - just a distributor. Big metal-sided or tilt-up concrete warehouse with lots of doors and refrigeration support, and truck docks out front. The small town where I grew up had such a distributor at the end of a one-mile spur, and at any given time there must have been 10-12 cars on two tracks. That and the feed mill on the same spur kept the local pretty busy.
