I'm really glad to hear about the plywood service. That's probably what mine would end up doing.

I can't justify more than one of each bodystyle since the roads being offered are "foreign" non-regional cars in New England for the most part, thus one BN and one SP.  I like diversity in the rolling stock freight fleet, so I'll always find a way to squeeze in at least one representative of distinctly different cars as they are offered by the manufacturers.

One way to justify a western car hauling beer from CR would be to have a local lumber yard receive plywood in it, the shift the car to the brewery for a return load of beer.

I checked the Morning Sun guide and they indicate that these cars were used at the Memphis, Tenn. brewery...I like the idea of using it for a plywood or other clean loading back haul...of course being as I model British Columbia and the likelyhood of Schlitz beer coming north circa 1973 is exactly the same as the likelyhood of a Canadian in 1973 actually drinking it.....(insert "canuck beer" joke here) makes my use of the car a trip to foobieville.........and I'll gladly take that ticket; I like the car !

Thanks for the info. Did the Morning Sun guide have a build date? The WOT has a NEW 1977 date. My eyes have gotten to the point where I tend to not worry about these things as long as the car existed during my time period.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing, but keep in mind, a brewery on CR shipping product out would more likely use CR cars. That's why I bought some of the RC 60' cars (even though the doors are wrong, I can live with it), and should probably get a few more.

Also keep in mind that more-specialized cars with equipment such as insulation and load-restriction devices are much more likely to be part of a pool arrangement assigned to a dedicated shipper, and not subject to the typical AAR car utilization and empty return practices.

The BN cars were built in 1970, and the SLSF car looks "too old" for 1977.  Most new cars had newer style ends by then.  However, the only online picture I could find of this class, large and clear enough to read the data, plainly said "NEW ?-77", so it's likely that's when they were built.  Darn, I ordered one too, for my 1974 railroad.

WOT doesn't release foobie schemes.  You can quibble over some details on the baggage cars for some of the schemes, but all of those can be made nearly or exactly prototypical with minor work (a reshaping of the door window panes on the black/red New Haven car for example).  So, the SLSF car is prototypical.

It sucks that WOT's only doing undec in the 6+8 car. I was thinking of grabbing some single doors and doing the simpler plug of the Evergreen cars. Yes, it's only a $1 price difference, but you still gotta strip the darn things.

I believe the double door car should have a 15 panel roof. Looks like WOT will be making them 21 panel similar to the correct SLSF car.

Does the insulation thickness vary depending on the specification of each road when ordered? I ask because I see cars labeled as 4829cuft, 4993cuft (BN) and 5059 (or so it appears in the linked image) cuft... Frisco 700248 being one carrying the higher cubic capacity.

Probably not, but things like interior load-restraining equipment that's present in the SP cars would reduce the cubic capacity.

The BN's reflective squares probably came from the GN, as they were using them by the early 60s, on their red and Glacier Green cars.  Possibly the first BN-lettered boxcars were the 318400-318599 series, built in 1970, apparently as part of the same order as SP&S 318100-318399, and they came with the squares.  On  the other hand, the SP&S cars came with yellow lettering and don't appear to have had any "conspicuity markings".

For a real oddity, there is GN 170077, a 3-bay CenterFlow.  It was given the full BN paint, except for "GN" instead of "BN", and had the reflector squares.  It's included in the old book "Lines East" by Patrick Dorin, but apparently isn't online.  When it was repainted I don't know, but probably during the Big Sky Blue era, while the merger was under court delay.
