B&O has so many paint schems it is sometimes hard to know what they used over the years.  Here's one in very early Amtrak days near Cumberland, MD.

It would be easy to do with Kato shell, decal louvers and plano etched grill. I'd do it but it's to late for me, and I have a ton of other projects.

Their rendition of dulux gold is a bit off, but you're saying the blue is horrible?

The Centralia colors are the brightest of the bunch. The lettering is about two sizes too big and bold. They need a good fade to have the correct colors.

I am sorry but those photos, while neet to look at, are horrible for using a source to color match.

This is one reason why I like Southern Railway tuxedos. Black is black and imitation aluminum is pretty straightforward.

Agreed.  But they do represent a closer version of the truth than the single coach photo that had the blues and yellows messed up, which is all I posted the links for.

Color matching:
1) Actual color chips. (Yes, there are several people with collections)
2) Pullman Paint and Lettering Notebook
3) Articles covering paint from noted sources (Like the Bob Chapman B&O article.)
4) Experience

And you have to have enough of a relationship with either the Chinese manufacturer or the paint supplier to be able to go back to them when they mess up a color match even when you send them a proper sample.

It's not easy, certainly.  But I'm still going to be disappointed when its wrong.

Runs nice and powered A can move a string of heavy weights very well.

Well now I want to see the B&O Heavyweights next to the Centralia car for comparison.

I thought the blue looked pretty close on the MT cars, but I'm not a B&O guy.

Finally got around to taking a couple quick comparison shots...

The first with room lighting (Ottlite bulbs)

They are a little blurry as  I held the camera for the shots. The cars are from Left to Right.....

Con-Cor Rivarossi, Micro Trains, Centralia, Rapido (Didn't feel like digging out the Kato or Bachmann cars for the total comparison.)

That MTL blue sure does "glow"

Please look at my previous post and note this is the same engine in two different locations on my layout.  Hint: the color looks remarkably different, especially the blue.  Our posted photos are far from accurate images of the actual colors of our models, unless we are very experienced photographers.  I am not one.
