Trainworx Yellow Freight KW K100 Day Cab Kit

For those that pre-ordered the Yellow Freight KW K100 day cab kit, they have arrived.  At this time Trainworx is sold out, but there may be a chance to get one if someone who pre-ordered the kit declines to follow through and purchase it.  That is my thought, and not from Pat, but "extra" models have been available in the past after the initial release announcement.  Here is the link to the Trainworx kit.  https://www.train-worx.com/?product=141085-01

Also, it looks like they had some "machining" done at the factory to create the day cab from a sleeper.   In looking at the enlarged view of the parts in the box, it looks like it may be up to the modeler to modify the cab to shorten the sleeper into the day cab.  However, it could also give you the option of building a sleeper K100.

I just bought could of these this morning. I like building kits and the price s more palatable too.  I wish TWX offered all their trucks as kits.

Trainworx posted a video on YouTube a few days ago on how to build this truck. Definitely not a shake-the-box kit.

I found the video to be quite interesting and compelling. 

Also, the finished model is pretty damn nice!

Too bad it's not in my era.

The YouTube video came out over the weekend and then the notification the trucks were available on Thursday. Opened it almost immediately to find the trucks were sold out.

Bah-humbug. Its a great looking truck just wished the opportunity was there to purchase a couple.

TWX seems to sell out quickly of pretty much all of their offerings. That's why why as soon as I saw the TWX email about these yesterday morning I went and ordered mine.

Since we discussed here in the past why don't they just make larger runs (and make more profits) but we were told by those in the know in the model industry that it is not that easy.

I suspect that Trainworx was adversely affected by all the manufacturing turmoil in the 2nd decade of this century (remember when TWX was cranking out release after release?).

This year I finally got the K100 cab that was announced in July 2017.

This is not a smear on Trainworx, I love Trainworx products (I have so many 40' trailers that I am sooooooo grateful for, along with other models) - just a comment on the difficulties that many of the importers have been experiencing in recent years.

I don't believe that the very limited runs are COVID related at all.  IIRC, TWX's vehicle runs (including the run of individual parts) were always very limited runs due to the way the way Chinese factories do business.  The expiation is somewhere in the archives of the forum (I believe Bryan Bussey chimed in with his experience).

I don't know where my brain came up with that.     Anyway, as far as I remember TWX tractors and trailers were always made in small runs which almost instantly sold out, especially those special paint schemes.  Maybe the runs were more frequent, but they were all still sell-outs.  Whether it is true or not, to me they seem to be creating a scenario where these models become collectibles with "collector prices" in the secondary market. If they could  just have larger runs this would likely not be happening, or at least to a much lesser degree.  Plus they would have larger profits form selling more models.  But as I was told, this is not how things work in today's world.

If you look at the N scale tractors page on Trainworx web site you will find a lot of tractors from the two previous releases are still available.  Just click on a tractor that is not "out of stock" and you will see the number are still available.  For example, this link takes you to the N scale tractor pages (https://www.train-worx.com/?product_cat=n-scale-tractors), and this link takes you to the first in-stock tractor (https://www.train-worx.com/?product=41051).  Even some of the LTL tractors that were released in April of 2025, like the Roadway KW T800 still show a lot in stock. https://www.train-worx.com/?product=48084-02

Factories generally have a minimum number units per SKU that need to be produced.  And, Pat will go ahead and order up to those minimums, even when the pre-orders don't justify it.  He really does try very hard to please us!
