This cab is so cool, would need a trailer for it. Looks like the trailers in the late 70s had a very simple scheme (Microscale decals).

Very tempting.  8)

Athearn released a Yellow 40' exterior post trailer two pack on their initial release of that tooling.  I have one pair of them.  Too bad I waited and the tractors are gone again.  Oh well.

Managed to pick up one of these. Tried to find proto pics of these but to no avail. Anyone know of any? Do we know if these were based on a prototype in the Yellow scheme?

There was a photo of Yellow 2347 in Photobucket back in 2020.  The link I had for it is no longer working, but here is what I was able to download at that time.

I am not sure if it is "legal" for me to post this photo, but I will delete it if that becomes an issue.

Based on that photo, what's the time period for this cab? I'm wondering if this cab would be around in 1993.

I took a look at my kit and I see few issues.

First is that the cutting jig is too wide. When the cab is slid over it the sides start to spread out and if I pushed it all the way onto the jig the front of the cab would either crack or bend.  I ended up sanding the mating area of the half which has no alignment posts. I placed a piece of 160 grit sandpaper on my bench and sanded the mating area in a circular motion, testing the fit several times  until the cab correctly slid onto the jig. The other issue is that when the cab is fully seated, the saw guide will have the saw cut pretty much through the holes for the railings.  I think sticking few layers of masking tape will space the cab enough forward so the saw blade will clear the holes.

The other, larger issue is that the photoetched steps/handrails are not correct.  They are the same as what is used for the sleeper version of the truck. They would install in the widely spaced holes, not in the extra row of holes in the center.

The instructions clearly show a photoetched piece which has a different shape of the steps and the handrails closer together (to properly fit the holes in the truck cab), but that is not what TWX included.

It appears that the wrong photoetched frets were packed in some of the kits.  If you have incorrect parts contact Pat at TWX for the correct parts.

I did not bother looking over all the other parts, but since they are the same parts used for other trucks, I assume they would all fit correctly

Wait, the cab comes as a sleeper that you need to cut off?

Um, yes.
By today's standard I would call this a "craftsman kit".  :D
