Weekend Update 3/16/25

I picked up some very old circus equipment at the Madison Train Show a few weeks ago from a gentleman's collection to add to my late 1940's RBBB train.

Nate, those look like the resin models that Ak-Sar-Ben sold in the 1980s. They used to kitbash masters and make castings of them to sell at train shows.

 SP 0-6-0  #1176 got some paint.

Tamiya rattle can matt black sprayed overall. Vallejo 71.102 heavily thinned and applied with a brush for the windows, and injectors. The smoke box front is an artist tube acrylic silver thinned with ipa. This silver was mixed with Tamiya flat black for the smoke box.

The decals must be thirty years old, and disintegrated when I tried to apply them.  In a thread here on TRW, Microscale Liquid Decal Film was suggested. Got some and it worked like a charm. The whole thing was sealed with a coat of Vallejo rattle can matt varnish.

I think using the spray cans and brushes put too thick a paint coat on. That said I am happy enough for now with the little switcher. Management is looking forward to it shoving cuts of cars on to the car floats, and earning it’s keep.

Finished up my 'speaker in a boxcar' this past week....


 




 


There is a demo of using the boxcar behind a DC and a DCC loco here.....

The build for the sound decoder to send the sound to the boxcar is ( HERE ) along with the boxcar build.

This weekend's task: get the risers for the mountain line.
18 ft of N Trak passenger terminal modules. This is quite a task and will tax all my skills, but man is it going to be cool.
Sometimes I wish I was in a t track club, I'd be done by now.
I can't wait to park Phoebe Snow on track 4!
Was thinking of doing a tread in Layout Engineering if anyone is interested????

This week I started body mounted couplers for the exReading Royal Hudson cars.



And I’ve been working on modules that I plan to bring to a train show in two weeks. I’ll be bringing all 28ft of my modules. I had a running railroad for about 3 weeks! 

I’ve been painting the sides black and fixing some small alignment issues/filling holes in preparation for ballast. I’ll be working on the ballast until the show.





At some point I need to see if I can fit them all in the van!
