I like that whole Dawson area of the layout. I was going to try and 3D that mill building before I found another building to use.

I'm glad because that building is actually your bootleg  :D .

The CI ones are great for what they are and this is a perfect use for them. It's a place where feature is more important than form. If this were going to be a permanent part of the layout I'd have gone with one of the myriad of other options but this was a quick and easy way to get things working quickly and to make it very easy to do what I need to do with it (throw that switch every once in a while).

I honestly don't know what someone could do to that design to improve it. No matter what you do you have to account for 12":1' fingers in a 1:160 world.

Any sort of under baseboard control would be better. Plenty of ways to do it manually if one doesn't want it powered.

You can power them (without using a switch machine)   Use a slide switch big enough to attach a linkage with a mount under the table ..

Ed has one variant here .. https://conrail1285.com/k-mount-turnout-controls/

I disagree. In this situation the under the table mount would have to go through 2.5" of "stuff" and will be a pain in the a$$.

I have plenty of those elsewhere, but for this quick and dirty use? Absolutely perfect.

Every tool is not right for every job, but in this case, it was perfect.

Revenue freight through CP York. Hell yeah.

There's only one problem. The reason the train stops is because the switch out of frame to the right needed to be adjusted some.

And when I tried adjusting it...

You should put a derailed PC train there.

As a result of the success of Seidelmann Run I've been doing a bunch of layout planning lately.

Working somewhat backwards, here's the latest staging plan.

Now that the water heater has been replaced I think this might be the next phase to actually begin construction.

What I don't like: It's actually only four tracks (six with the shorties in the front).
What I do like: It fits! And those four through tracks are long enough to hold multiple trains on them. There's also plenty of "shotgun staging" in that helix between the decks in the upper left.

Tell me what I'm screwing up with here.

Do you really want that single track? Wouldn’t it be better to have crossovers/scissor crossings? It’s more complex, but this design has a bottleneck built in.

The switches also at the end of the helix and could have all sorts of issues unless they're still on the slope of the helix,
