I have found, contrary to some online wisdom. That Matte Medium likes to settle rather quickly. I have to wonder if the formulation between the stuff in Canada in the US is different since Boomer Dioramas also says they don't leave residue against my observation.

But when I use my jar I shake that  for a good 2--3 minutes before use otherwise I get this white chalk on everything.

My Modge Podge is made in US.  I vigorously shake the diluted produce before use.  Even using it straight as glue, it never leaves a visible indication.

I mean, the stuff is made for artists because it does not leave a residue.  Plus it won't rehydrate which is a great feature for layered scenery work.  White glue is for kids who eat it

Given that I often tweak my scenery, the ability to rehydrate with 70% IPA is actually a feature I prefer. To each his own!

Me, too!  It also makes it really simple to release ballast, if I decide to do some track work.

Mainline and siding ballasting is half done.

The front track is the mainline that was rehabbed after Agnes. The rear track is, outside the interlocking, older and wasn't touched during the upgrades. At least, that's the story I'm trying to tell here.

Maybe they had prescribed burn overnight ?

My thoughts exactly. A few random light sprays of black in certain spots, a burned out car chassis, and you've got an awesome scene!! (tho not controlled burn, just careless smoker result).  So few people model desolate, trashed out, abandoned open areas. In the same vein  when was the last time you saw a house under demolition on a layout?

One thing that has generally happened was that a combination of grout pigment and glue residue was coloring the web of the rail.

Dr Hotballz was giving me ***** about it so I fixed it by applying a wash of thinned burnt umber. It also really helped get rid of any remaining "green stuff".

On THAT topic: I used distilled water for the latest round and didn't see any show up so I think it's my tap water.
