I have always wondered why we have not seen (ok heard) people putting sound decoders in boxcars that play car sound effects. Definitely plenty of space for speakers. If i did it there would be one on each end playing different car rolling sounds. You could rig up a truck with a degree of turn measurer that would do flange squeal when the curve was tight enough. And for the 70s modelers it could play square wheel noises. My grandfather always had a funny comment for the seriously square wheels when they came by. When we watched from tye old station platform you could feel the thumps through your feet.

I think the big issue is pickup.

Getting reliable electrical contact in locomotives is tough enough. But reliable contact in cars? Yikes.

Precisely what a current-keeper is perfect for. And, in a "house car," there should be plenty of room for one.

How have you not yet tried one of the BLI stock cars with sheep sound effects?

I remember those and thought it was such a wasted opportunity. A boxcar with a big cap in it and two speakers playing independent “train noise” aimed out either end.

I can't remember how many passes this took, and yes, I had to circumnavigate the entire layout through both staging yards several times to get the various shots.  But it's sort of my standard for making a roll by video.  Your musical accompaniment may vary.

I love the loads of foam in some of the hoppers.

More crappy video, lol.

I was performing some fixes on my dad's engine and made this to show him the outcome.

It's not the best camera work, but I like it.

Criminy, at about a minute in, all the passengers get lurched forward.... and then, right as they're recovering and standing up, they get sent backwards from the sudden acceleration. Warm up the attorneys....

This is why you run modern and don't allow passenger service under any circumstances
