I wonder if there will be undecorated E7A locomotives or even just shells available.  I have to imagine they will use the current E8 mechanism so hopefully E7A shells will fit an E8A mechanism.  Too bad no E7B units.

Anyone notice the are Phase II units?limits the future releases quite a bit without tooling changes.

Not the observation.  Hickory Creek is privately owned and still in NYC TCL livery, currently stored in Whippany NJ.

I note that the 4-4-2 cars have roller bearing 43-R trucks which will be useful to passenger car modelers for other trains too.

Post-1954.  But it would be cool to add one of the Kato NYC Slumbercoaches, if they can still be found.

CORRECTION — just did some checking, Kato never released the Slumbercoach in NYC.  So the undec model and some decals would be in order.

These cars do not have full-width diaphragms, so if Kato ever decided to produce the Dreyfus Hudson loco, they would have to remake the molds to model the 1938 consist.  At least they already have the "Napeoleon hat" trucks they would need for that  train.

We're very excited today to announce the next release in Kato USA's line of "Classic named trains" - the New York Central 20th Century Limited, coming October 2020!

The 20th Century Limited will be a totally new train, with brand new tooling for all cars to match the prototype's 1950's era consist. To pull the train we will be offering a set of brand new locomotives as well - EMD E7A's (never before done by Kato) which would have been brand new when they were put into service pulling this classic train!

As a nod to the "red carpet service" the New York Central prided itself on for its passengers, the set will be coming with a "red carpet" of its own - a special decorated re-railer with the appearance of the NYC's classic walkway adornment.

It should be the standard E5/E8 mechanism.

Undecorated complete models are unlikely however, undecorated shells will probably be offered through the parts department.

No kidding. Did anyone have phase 2 E7's beside NYC and PM/C&O?

This is even more bizarre than making the wintierization hatch on the FP7A part of the shell.

Phase 1 is the iconic E7A, and those are the ones I bet almost everyone associates with the 20th Century Limited.

With all the different variations of E8/9 & F units why would you expect them to not offer different variations of the E7. Heck the SDP40F comes to mind. Amtrak version and ATSF version.
