Got an email tonight from PWRS about the eminent official announcement of the train. They are saying it will be an A-A set of E7s.

Quote
Kato - N Scale - New York Central - 20th Century Limited - E7 Locomotives A-A unit Set - Expected Release Date: 2020-12-01
Kato - N Scale - New York Central - 20th Century Limited - 9 car passenger Set - Expected Release Date: 2020-12-01

I really hope they offer a E7B as well, maybe like the Hiawatha with an AB set and a single A. The 9 cars seems like too short of a consist, when 15 seems more reasonable.

Attempting to model a modern Southern Pacific based in 2015/2016...

Also, I have a passenger train addiction...

I’ve got my Kato NYC ALCO PA/B set, with LokSounds, ready for that passenger consist!

Be warned if there is such a thing as an E7 with specific detailing for the NYC, it will be that model.  It may not lend itself to any other road.

The 9 cars seems like too short of a consist, when 15 seems more reasonable.
A late 1948 NYC timetable shows a consist of 15 cars, two of which were run-though sleepers from the Santa Fe.
Kato packaged the PRR Broadway Ltd as a 10-car PRR main set, with a 4-car PRR add-on set and a separate Santa Fe sleeper.
For the NYC 20th Century Ltd, a 9-car NYC main set, with a 4-car NYC add-on set and a separate Santa Fe sleeper 2-pack might make sense.

I'm thinking a coat of black and some worms would look good on one. That's my plan any way.

Did the NYC do anything to their E7's that was wildly different from what everyone else had?

If this was the Texas Special E's (fluted sides) or MoPac E's (portholes) I'd get the concern, but I don't think NYC was bad about ordering super customized locomotives...

Not to worry, the NYC E7's were very standard.  When it comes to the diesel fleet, there is not usually very much (if any) in the way of road-specific detailing that needs to be done in order to more faithfully model a NYC engine.  As a NYC modeler, I find this good and bad, because sometimes it's fun to add those road-specific details to make a model more accurate and unique.  But on the plus side, the vast majority of NYC diesel models are ready to run out of the box.

Depends which E7s Kato R&D picks....
There are some early ones that had slotted pilots....and later Phase II ones with screened vents and radiators instead of louvre.  Plus late road modifications like grab irons, deskirting, etc.

Yeah, its the one with the unique window and vent arraignment that I'm wondering about.

Would Kato be likely to choose something other than the "as built" configuration?

Does the 20th Century Limited come with Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint? Or at least a DVD of a certain movie?

Sure, if the passenger consist doesn't represent the "as delivered" train then they could do a later locomotive.

One of my absolute favorites.  And, at the end, there is that pair of SP diesels in Daylight colors.

Does anybody have a list of the actual cars in the actual set, not just prototype consists or wishes of what it "should" be?

Kato teased on Facebook about stopping by the Amhearst show as they were displaying an announcement, yet I haven't heard/seen anything on what it actually is.

Other than a flyer....
