I tried to have a conversation with Ken once, but instead of actually talking with me he decided to talk down to me and pretty much insult me, so that really put me off from ever buying a BLI product. Only way I'd ever buy a BLI product would be second-hand as I refuse to support BLI.

When an organization chooses to make a certain individual a prominent part of their marketing efforts, it can sometimes become difficult to separate that person (and their persona) from the company's products.

I'm sure Ken is a lovely guy who just happens to hate N scale.  But I guess I can't blame him since apparently in order to even try to sell N scale PRR stuff, they have to sell a ton of Choo Choo shoes.

So I'm judging BLI and Ken off what I know, and quite frankly, it's limited. (Broadway Limited. (LOL)
When I think of BLI, I think of Ken, the M1, the T1, the shoes, and my Centipedes that don't run well (but they will some day!) I think I just got a bum batch of centipedes so I forgive them because the M1 and the T1 are...so freaking great.
Other people hate them for other reasons...like their decoder or that they don't sell non sound versions. I personally couldn't believe the M1 came with a dummy front coupler.

So I have no idea about the stuff with Ken and not liking N scale. Ed was there with me when I showed him this pic:


And he was blown away. (I didn't hurt myself patting myself on the back, but the Ed K. hurt me in other ways).

Are there specific things he said to you guys about N scale?

I am just thankful that someone is creating some N-scale Pennsy steam.  BLI could have decided not to do anything in N-scale, but thankfully they did the M-1 and now the T-1. 

I need to buy an M-1, I have heard nothing but good reviews of it.

I made my peace with BLI/PCM when the M1 finally came out.  I even apologized on their Facebook page for losing faith that it would ever come to market.  BLI is an N scale Pennsy fan's best hope for a continued stream of Pennsy steam.  It's a very good thing that the two they've delivered have been outstanding in detail and performance.  Yes, Bachmann did the K4 and it was decent (although I didn't run mine long enough to encounter the failures that some others did) but since I don't see any other PRR steam in HO from them, there's little to no chance we'll see anything else in N (steam-wise, anyway...since Bachmann did seem to think the N scale market needed another GG1 at twice the price).

Ken may be a colorful fellow but if he truly is the gateway to N scale product from BLI, it would serve us all well to be constructive in our interactions with him going forward.

In the meantime, in my world Blackstone is the new BLI.  Chinese factory issues and delays have delayed a long-awaited pair of D&RGW K-class engines for a few years and the chorus I hear from the HOn3 crowd is starting to sound an awful lot like the grumblings a few years into the BLI/PCM M1 delays.  I've not lost hope this time in part because of the BLI experience.

I was watching some video of the t1 the other day and didn't notice the screen on some of the prototypes. But it looks like a good candidate for a 3d printed piece of you don't want to etch it.

What were the failures with the Bachmann K4?  I don't have one, but am thinking of purchasing one in the near future.

I think you’re right. From a commercial standpoint it’s probably not a good idea, but he is also human. I do know that Ken always treated us correctly and I like what BLI makes. The only part of BLI I like less is the way the sometimes compete with their dealers by offering their products too quick as refurbished models. That’s the reason I buy my BLI stuff almost always from dealers.
