I finally got motivated to work on a few locomotive projects I’ve had on the back burner forever. One is remotoring a Precision Scale brass K4 and installing a keep alive and sound. Today, I installed a Maxon 1016 coreless motor, replacing the original open-frame 5-pole motor. Getting everything to mate up was interesting - I used a universal from a spare Kato worm gear and brass tubing drilled-out to fit the motor shaft on one end, and the shaft of the male-end of the universal on the other. I modified the original mounting bracket to fit the threads on the motor, then applied some Walthers Goo to keep it from working loose during operation. After a short test run, it seems to work well! I’ll let it run-in a while before installing the decoder.

Started working on my NS 2-8-4 again.  1:160 steam is cleaner than 1:1 steam, but presents its own challenges.

I've been plugging along on my Milwaukee H10-44 Shapeways project.
This has been a very slow build.
All said and done between the Archer details, decoration and lettering there are 75 individual decals on this model.

Jim,

Nice job on the FM switcher.  The louvers and vents look good.  The handrails and grab irons look really good!  The door latches are another nice detail.  Must have been tough adding those!

I didn't really plan on the latches. I carved off the printed details in order to sand the doors smooth. They weren't too bad to install. Just bits of wire bent and poked through holes drilled in the shell.

Beautiful, Chris.  You won't go wrong with a Maxon 1017 ( it's actually a 17, not a 16  ).   Maxons are potent beasts!

Joe,
The shell is designed as a direct fit for an Atlas VO1000.
The only modification is relocating the LEDs on the lightboard or decoder in order to use the supplied cab interior.
