I finally got motivated to work on a few locomotive projects I’ve had on the back burner forever. One is remotoring a Precision Scale brass K4 and installing a keep alive and sound. Today, I installed a Maxon 1016 coreless motor, replacing the original open-frame 5-pole motor. Getting everything to mate up was interesting - I used a universal from a spare Kato worm gear and brass tubing drilled-out to fit the motor shaft on one end, and the shaft of the male-end of the universal on the other. I modified the original mounting bracket to fit the threads on the motor, then applied some Walthers Goo to keep it from working loose during operation. After a short test run, it seems to work well! I’ll let it run-in a while before installing the decoder. (Attachment Link)
