Naked FP-7.



Been looking at how close other road names are to the Milwaukee shell.  SOO just needs a freight pilot.  The main issue is the winterization hatch which is a fairly uncommon style.  The CGW conversion requires 36" DB fans, freight pilot and new winterization hatch.

Need to measure it for SS grills and I can send that file out which includes the first walkway test for the 19,000 tank car and 38" plates for CGW caboose logos.

Soo had the squared off hatches as well. Not sure on FP7S though. Soo pretty much threw whatever they could up there. Amd sometimes didn't.

After 3 months, I finally got a chance to work on the railroad again.  Made a little more progress on the mill scenery.

Back to work on the Santa fe big hudson chassis! Oh and countering a kato tender to an fef-1 model.

Man those flanges are close! That is also a great idea to use an SD40-2? truck. I'm stealing that.

Now that makes more sense. Kato trucks use outside bearings so the axles would be floating in the gear box.  But the old Life Like trucks used inside bearings.

What an interesting and creative idea, Adam. Yes, those flanges are supposed to be close to keep the fixed wheelbase as short as possible. And those BIG Hiawatha 84" drivers, NOW you're talkin'! I'll follow this with interest, my big 3460 class Hudson build is on the back burner (still waiting for those axles one of our unnamed members volunteered to turn for me a couple of years ago

Soo had the squared off hatches as well. Not sure on FP7S though.

From the photos, it's looks like 500 and 501 had the square hatch like the MILW.  It also looks like the WC unit #2500 had this hatch as well.

I installed some MT true scale couplers on a couple of A units and a couple of tail cars.  They look pretty good; a tad smaller than the MT 905's. Definitely.  At first glance I thought they were pics of HO models with Sergent couplers.

While TSCs themselves look good, the large and thick-walled coupler box (which is the same as the one used with standard MTL 1015 N scale couplers) takes away from the realism and scale-like appearance.

Further work on Chetwynd Yard today.  I used an eight foot steel level to locate the tangent for the mainline through the yard:




And I completed installation of track-bed for the curves from the Fort St. John & Dawson Creek Subdivisions up to the first yard turnouts:




The next step is to get track down for these two curves, and associated wiring underneath.
