Weekend Update 9/24/17

So I got some paint on the tank car to see what it looked like without any work done to smooth out the surface.  I have to say I'm encouraged. 



The next design probably won't have the band on the top (I'll probably have a recess for an etched band to sit in) so all the round surfaces will be able to get sanded without obstruction.

I'm kicking myself for not at least putting the coupler pockets on before printing.    Need. More. Patience.

Pole and board are styrene.

Copied a photo I thought looked right, manipulated it in PS - size, mults - and printed result on photo paper. 

Not 1000% happy with them, but good enough IMO

Nice subtle weathering on the CP unit.  The ballast and painted / weathered rail look really good also.

I finally had a chance to get some stuff done with mixed results:

Building up some of my IHC Storefront collection... still in progress, and there's a LONG way to go:

I'm still making some decisions on colors on them though. I'm having a hard time finding period correct colors for these things (mid 80s), but I'm also thinking about just doing most of trim on them them pretty drab gray so they kinda just blend in.
Thoughts?

From all the IHC homes series this was my least-favorite. The windows in those kits really bug me. Not only are they very heavy-handed, their sizes and locations seem weird too.  Not sure about colors either, but neutral colors should work.  Like you said, they will just blend in.

Peteski speaks the truth.  The windows are not great.  However, what I'd recommend is what I saw on the HO version of these at the RR Museum of PA layout.  Turn the windows around and poke them through from the back like a window on a brick wall should look.  Here are mine built per instruction:

I feel like the second photo looks more like how windows in a brick wall should look.
