Right - and Dave's Brownstones have probably the least offensive windows out of the IHC kits.  Um, the Gingerbread houses are ok too.
What Dave did is is a big improvement.  But I would still prefer to also see some window sills (although that photo doesn't show the windows very well).

I also found a photo of a Brownstone building which has windows similar to the original IHC design, but those are rarer.

I'm still making some decisions on colors on them though. I'm having a hard time finding period correct colors for these things (mid 80s), but I'm also thinking about just doing most of trim on them them pretty drab gray so they kinda just blend in.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a good reason to re-watch the Wire.  :D

Pete, I appreciate the shout-out, but that second shot is from the late Chris Comport's PRR Middle Division HO layout in the lobby of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.  The first photo is mine, and I built the IHC buildings per the directions and therefore have the goofy window look.  Had I seen Chris' work before I assembled my kits I would have followed his example.

Heh. Like there's never a reason to not?

But I'm looking for York about 15 years before The Wire.

Agreed! Please share your techniques!

Thanks.  Sadly, I don't have any secrets to share.  I just use a flat sable brush and lots of patience, kind of like these gentlemen:

(well, not nearly as much patience as they have)  :)

I sit corrected. But no credits were given for the layouts in both photos you've posted. Yeah, I know, you wrote "H0"and "museum", but what do I know . . .
As far as the depot goes, I didn't ask, but I  am also wondering whether it is a commercial kit or scratchbuilt. I know, it is not your layout.

I took both photos.  But the second photo is of the museum layout (per the description above the photos).  My joke about "reading is hard" wasn't directed at you.

EDIT:  That depot appears to be scratchbuilt as it's a very accurate depiction of the PRR depot at Mifflintown, PA.

Pretty sure Chris Comport passed away a few months back.

He did.  I spoke to him once on another forum about this particular layout.  Seemed like a real nice guy.

That is a cool fix with outstanding results . IHC should offer this up as an option in their instructions .

Gary,

Nice subtle weathering on the CP unit.  The ballast and painted / weathered rail look really good also.

Scott

Nice? I honesty thought that's was real until I was Scott's post.

Craig.
