As a CSX modeler I have been waiting for this one for a while. It arrived today and I opened the package
. My first thought was nice detail but the grabs on the short hood look a little chunky. No big deal. I put it on the track and turned the throttle. The headlight came on briefly but no sound and no movement. I see nothing obvious that could be wrong. I'm hoping someone here will have some thoughts. I am running straight dc.

If you have a fresh 9V battery handy try to use it to test the loco.  If the decoder has a DC mode enabled (most decoders do by default) then that should be enough pure DC voltage to operate the model.

Nowadays often there is some sort of coating on the new model's wheels which is non-conductive. If you can, try clean the wheels - at least the part of the tread which is touching the track (since cleaning wheels of a non-operating model is not easy).  I would use se 91% isopropyl alcohol or denatured alcohol.

Just got my GE Green Machine demo and the post above is correct, clean the wheels.  Mine started and ran on first try, but would stall randomly and restart until I cleaned the wheels and gave it a little break in running.  I can not read CV's on my programming track (MRC Prodigy wireless) but that was stated as so in the manual.  I have it consisted with the Fox Valley ES44AC GE hybrid demo, a Kato ES44AC GE demo and the Atlas Dash 8-40C GE demo, and they all run well with a bit of adjusting the CV6.  I agree on the grabs, but the rear view mirrors and glass in the front cab door and the alternating ditch lights make up for any lack in scale handrails.  I noticed that BLI has moved away from the wired trucks like on the E7's and has a phosphor bronze wiper arrangement like other manufacturers.  Make sure to register the unit on BLI's warranty web page just in case....  Paid around $175.00 out the door for this unit and the sound and features make me feel like it was a worthwhile purchase, also BLI has a great storage case and padded box that this engine comes in, very classy, similar to the Intermountain Cab Forward N Scale box in a box.

Man those demos look great. I tried cleaning the wheels with 91% alcohol but had no luck. I am off to get a fresh 9v battery. Pete what is method for checking with the 9v?

Put the loco on the track and hold the battery upside down so each terminal can touch one of the rails. You should get movement, so make sure there's enough track or it's on a flat surface that the loco won't be damaged if it runs off the end.

The green looks a little light.

But I still like them.

Yeah, you see this Intermountain and ESU ?  WORKING alternating ditch lights from the factory.   

There's a couple sitting up at the hobby shop.  If I didn't have another SD40-2 coming, I might pick it up.  Hell, the working ditch lights might change my mind.

It was really hard to pass on these.... since this is one of my all time favorite locos.

But I'm holding out for the Diversity in Motion scheme- hopefully in the next run.

Not bad. These things were all over the Boston line for the first decade after the merger. I always wanted one to mix with my MAC80s.

Also the Bright future with the two tone "CSX" is a killer scheme.

Or as an alternative, hold the loco upside down in your hand and touch the battery terminals to the wheels.  But using a piece of track has more points of contact.

I tried the 9 volt battery and the loco is dead. It never did run, the headlight just came on at first and then nothing. Tried the battery with other locos and they worked. Cleaned the wheels again and still nothing. How is the sound on these? I do agree with Bob on the door glass and mirrors.

Well I guess I am not the only one. I put power to my UP GE AC6000. The lights came on. I then thought I heard a faint "pop". This was followed by the faint, but unmistakable smell of fried electrical parts. No motion, no sound. Lights still go on! Also using straight DC. Just had another engine running fine on the track. I contacted the vendor and Broadway Limited.

Larry, what was BLI response? I contacted my vendor and he said he thought there was a quick fix and he would get back to me. My light came on initially but now is off.

Hello,

As of this AM, no response from the vendor. BL models is in Florida, so they be busy with mops and buckets (if they are lucky). Maybe I will try mine again. I am tempted to open it up and poke around, but I don't want to violate the warranty. Kinda disappointed. The Centipedes worked like champs from the get go.
