Also see that ST is selling the LokPilot Next18 dcc chips ($31) if you want to get a DCC non sound. (total would be $154 vs $204 for the sound unit)

The detail looks absurd.

I've seen the ST GEVOs pop up in eBay, but none so far in MBK and other retailers. Also the price through ST directly seems about the same a retailer would offer (less than MSRP), just wondering how ST's distribution works.

Without a doubt the most detailed N scale diesel produced so far. Runs decent too. I'll have more photos and video tomorrow...

Mine arrived today as well... Amazing level of detail & they sound exceptional (I WILL be ordering more)

Kudos to ST for bringing these to market... the bar has been raised!

Their distribution works that they have limited dealers to buy from.   And the price at the dealer is exactly the same as ST.  Until ST can't sell and they cut their prices, leaving dealer holding the bag.  End of rant.

I don't know if I'm unlucky, but my NS unit has atleast 6 (probably more) light leaks. Everywhere from ditchlights front and rear, near the PTC array, radiator, on the rear etc. The leaks are accentuated by the NS black paint scheme. The light leaks are also not subtle ones, they are quite visible.

The sound, I'm really concerned about the volume. The factory diesel volume is set at 100 with a max range of 259, but increasing to 225 did not do all that much to the volume. I'm unsure if this is the best GE prime movers sound. I guess I will be reaching out to ST.

Got mine today and I am impressed. A very nice engine, all the wheels are in gauge and the detailing is what I expected from Scale Trains. The included operator's manual has a lot of info about DCC programming including instructions for Digitrax programing. It comes already programmed for your prototype but includes the CV48 options if you want a different bell and whistle. The trucks are absolutely gorgeous and a little black wash will bring out the details. The engine moves on speed step 1, a little jerky at that speed but I am running it on my break in track now and that should fix it. It looks great and runs great so I think it is a great addition to N Scale. I need to spend some more time trackside because when you blow the whistle, the bell starts ringing and continues for a few seconds after the horn stops. I don't recall that on the prototype so will need to listen. The headlight and ditch lights are on a separate control (F6 for ditch lights) and pressing F12 will dim the headlight and turn off the ditch lights.

It has an ESU Select and includes Drive Hold. I like this engine.

I just dropped mine on the rails. Both are programmed directionally backwards. I’m glad I have a LokProgrammer. I’ll try to adjust the settings tomorrow. I can’t comment on the ditch lights as F6 does nothing (I’m guessing it’s related to the directional issue). Well, one of the ditch lights came on. The sound is good and the details look nice: the grabirons are a little further out than I set mine (probably .01” too far for my taste).

I’ll fix settings and update my review.

That’s too bad on your light leak issues.  So far the only thing I noticed with the room lights off is some leak on one ditch light under the front porch.  That’s it though on the one I’ve opened so far.

On sound... I suspect but haven’t checked yet that there isn’t much of an enclosure on these. But I need to check. However, I ran into a similar problem with a LokSound install on an SD70ACE where ESU had two versions of the sound file and the first one I downloaded had too much bass rumble in the recording. Even listening to it on the ESU website, you could tell this particular sound file wasn’t going to sound good with a tiny N scale speaker.  So I downloaded the other version that had a better overall EQ that suits small speakers - the overall prime mover sounds much better. ESU has two files for the Tier 4 GEVO and one sounds like the version installed in the ScaleTrains GEVO (the newer sound file) which sounds very bass/rumble heavy. The other file may work better.  I’m going to tear into this unit to look at the speaker install and then will update the sound file to see if that helps.

Thanks @lashedup  lets hope its an issue with just mine. I did reach out to ST and will be sending this one for service. They acknowledged the leaks from the pics I sent. The leaks are holes in some cases  or crevices from parts not fitting right. Id prefer if they replaced it altogether but upto them if they can satisfactorily resolve the issue without taking weeks. The sound I hope also gets better and turns out to be an issue with just this one. I have not heard the prime mover sound being this low in a sound install. Other sounds seemed to be fine. I tried cv 32 =1 cv 31 = 16 and cv 259 = 225 without much improvement.

ST was prompt to get back and acknowledge so they definitely got that right, hope the issue is addressed quickly as well. I want ST to be successful with this model as much as I want my $s worth, fingers crossed.
