With the disclaimer that it was the very first operational sample of not only of the T4, but the ESU sound board as well (The ESU guys, being at the show with us, installed the board just minutes before the doors opened); it appeared to match FVM gearing the closest.  It ran with my speed matched units almost perfectly.  :)

I'll also add, holy crap was mech. smooth and silent!

Wow they look even better in action! Aside from the couplers you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference from their HO T4 GEVO.  Model and module looks great!

The T4 is the SD-40 of the current and next decade. There will be thousands of them and Scale Trains should do really well if the execution is up to expectations (which seems to be well-founded by what we've seen).  Like the 53' containers, this is a home rum hit for the company and there are a lot of ways to put out new paint schemes.

It's not like we need more geeps and steam, what hasn't been done to death anyway

Would love me some RS27's or some FM H-12-44's  or a proper GP30 and SD9, hmmm non DB SD40, or heck a 4 panel howe truss boxcar... (magor, fowler or soo sawtooth)  there's a world of possibilities...

While all those would fill gaps in the N scale lineup (I personally would prefer an FM H10-44 or H12-44), you can't blame Scale Trains for going with more of a sure thing market-wise.  There is no T4 being produced yet, and as someone else pointed out, this will be the mainstay locomotive for modern railroading for the next decade or more.  The Alco RS32 sold 35 units; the C415/424/425 together were about 300 units total production (including the MILW models for Canadian roads).  There will probably be more T4's than that produced in a single year as the Class I's replace their fleets.

More Alco's would be nice (although I think realistically something like an RS32 will only be available via a 3D-printed shell), but I can't fault Scale Trains for wanting to hit a market home run - even though I'll never buy one for my 1950's layout . . .

Does anyone know if the ET44 series are the same truck-centers as the earlier ES44 series?

Could ST use their mech to possibly do the earlier ES44 series down the track?

Or heaven help me, a SP correct AC4400CW????

According to Wikipedia, the ET44 is 16" longer.  Looking at photos, this seems to correspond to extra space between the fuel tank and the rear truck.

In other words, no, not the same.

Maybe BLI will do your SP unit.     After all, their doing a fantasy SP AC6000CW.

Just looking at the ST website, the ETA of the Tier 4 has been updated to April 2018 ! Shane responded to a query of mine a few weeks back that they are on track to deliver in early Spring 2018.

That is what the rep told me during Hostlers trains show a couple weeks ago. Here are some photos of the engines and some other items they have coming down the line.
