I'm also planning a repaint of the SW1s I just bought - let us know how the paint stripping goes (and what you used).

Or vice versa assuming you get through your backlog of crap faster than me.

I just picked up two NP U-Boats. Thanks for the link Ed. That's quite a savings.

Hello group,

I’m not a regular poster here (although I read a lot and really enjoy those weekly photo post), but thanks for posting about this deal. Wow, what a bargain! I just quickly jumped on spookshow.net and read up on the U25Cs…another “wow”; really impressive level of detail for n scale. Great to see low-profile wheelsets on locomotive now.  And, if the traction tires are an issue down the road; looks like you can just remove that one wheel and replace with it with one that doesn’t have a traction tire (assuming you can get spare parts from Hornby).

Link: http://www.spookshow.net/loco/arnoldu25c.html

Anyways, thanks again!
Mark J.

That is not such a big news anymore.
Low profile (Atlas C55-compatible wheels) have been the norm from most US and Japanese manufacturers for decades now.  Also, the Arnold of today is nothing like the original Arnlod Rapido from Germany. Also, even most contemporary European models (still with deeper flanges) have no problem running on that track.  Then there are the latest Kato locos which feature what I would call "semi-scale" wheels. Very small flanges and narrow tread.  They actually fall into the frog flangeways of some of the older-design turnouts (like Peco).  While they don't derail, you can see the loco wobble as it traverses the turnout.  But those wheels sure do look good.

I wouldn't worry too much.  They turned out to be easily fixed, and were probably quality control problems rather than design flaws

Thanks for the update! And yes I searched the forum for news about the model and found your thread.

You  have the advantage of living close to their warehouse, but that is still pretty fast. I think the extra staffing and work hours at all the shippers due to the holidays also helped.  Mine are still couple of days away (shipped to the East coast).

My two SW1's were ordered just after midnight the morning the 8th and shipped out at 6PM.  UPS says they are due for delivery Friday the 16th.  It's a long way from Redmond to Cincinnati.  I got a notice from FedEx that the weather in the NW could affect shipping so that might be factored in by UPS as well.

I would have loved a U25C but they are too new for my mid 50's PRR era.
