Buckeye trucks on Bachmann Aux Water Tender

If anyone has this tender, would you mind snapping a photo of the trucks for me and measuring the distance between the two outer most journal boxes? I'm seeking info for the Royal Hudson project.

Thanks.

Craig.

And do they have electrical pick up?

Low profile wheels?

Thanks!

No pickup and IIRC the standard wide-tread Bachmann wheels. Not low-profile flanges like FVM wheels, but should be C55-safe.  Bachmann has been using fairly low-flange wheels for decades.

I have a pair, thanks, but I think they are large for my application.

Depends on the version:

The early one that came with the original J class does not have pickups. The later Spectrum Excursion tender was simply that tender with a fresh paint job.

If you get the later Spectrum "Aux Water Tender" (89951 is the part number on the undec in my hand) it has pickups and standard split axle tender wheels that come with all the Spectrum tenders.

Tony is correct.

if nobody else posts a pic I will take one and post it when at home.

I believe these are Pilcher trucks though.

Looks like there are some variations.  I have a Spectrum set which has the #611 loco and the aux. tender.  The aux. tender's trucks have  1-piece axles and no electric pickup.  Also the loco tender and aux. tender use different type trucks. The loco tender's trucks (whatever that type is called) do have electric pickup.

As far as size goes Scott, The Bachmann and Kato (GS4) trucks are identical.  Kato truck  is not larger (it shouldn't be as it depicts the same truck). I just now compared them.  And yes, Kato trucks have the typical excellent axle-end pickup built-in.  I would recommend the GS4 trucks too. I bought a bunch of them when they were available from Kato, but you migth find them on a secondary market.

They may not be the trucks you are looking for but the parts can be used to build what you need.

Here are some photos.

This is comparison of Bachmann and Kato trucks.  Kato not only has all-wheel pickup but the level of detail and quality of the engraving is vastly superior to Bachmann.

Thanks everyone. I have the Kato trucks. I'll have to get some measurements of the Buckeyes in the Royal Hudson and compare to see if they are the correct size.

The tender I own (as the photo shows) is also a Spectrum model - as I suspected, there are multiple versions. Looks like Bachmann doesn't use pointed axle ends - instead they use blunt axles running in holes in the metal side-frames (like some of the Athearn N scale models).
