Bachmann made a really nice model of the actual N&W auxillary tender, and a recycled update (as noted above) of the 1980s tooling excursion aux tender, which in real life was kitbashed from an L&N Big Emma tender IIRC.

Pilcher trucks on left, Buckeyes on the right.

The N&W Aux tender was new tooling this century, and actually has lights that work:

Odd, the pix worked last night when I checked the post. I made some changes to my post today. Let me know if it still doesn't work.

Mark, is the tender on the left also a Bachmann?  Was it sold individually or in some train sets?  I don't recall ever seeing one.  The only N scale Bachmann N&W aux. water tenders I have seen were like the one I posted photo of and the one on the right in your photo. As you mentioned, each tender uses different type of trucks.

Pete, the N&W proto aux tenders were only available separately IIRC. They came out about the same time as the current tooling J class. The  Bachmann catalog number is 89953 (vs 89952 for the excursion tender).

The Pilcher truck was an N&W design, named after John Pilcher, steam era Chief Mechanical Engineer, Motive Power on the N&W.

Craig it looks like you still need the Buckeye trucks. So far we still haven't see the Bachmann version which is designed for electric pickup.

Peteski you are correct, but I think the Buckeye trucks are only on the older models, and the new ones with pick up use the Pilcher..  If the Bachman trucks are are the same size as the Kato trucks then it doesn't matter anyway.  I have those and was just hoping for a smaller set as i think the Kato trucks are too large for my model's prototype.

Thanks everyone.

Then I guess my next question whether the tender you are modeling really use Buckeye trucks, or just stand-ins?  If yes, was there such a thing as "Baby Buckeye"?  I thought all the trucks would have been the same size.  The Pilcher trucks seems to look shorter than Buckeye, but the side-frame shape and details are different.   Maybe you can use it instead?

I have some Life Like Buckeye trucks I'd trade for Concor Commonwealth trucks.

The loco  I am modelling came with buckeye trucks on the tender. They look very similar to that Kato trucks, with the brake cylinders and such, but I thought maybe the size was closer to the micro train truck which is noticeably smaller. I have to confirm with measurements.

Perhaps someone can measure it right now. The project will need two kinds of trucks (based on the class), Commonwealth and Buckeye. The commonwealth truck has an axle spacing of 4' 5", and the buckeye truck has an axle spacing of 4' 9".
Because why not...

Looking at Spookshow's website there are 8 different Buckeye trucks (not even including the Kato version or the ones which were on the LifeLike Mallet tender).  They do appear to have different dimensions.  :|

Perfect. I didn't have that measurement for the Buckeye truck. The Kato GS4 Buckeye has an axle spacing of 4'10" by my measurements. All though I may have been off an inch.

Game on.

Thanks again everyone.
