Hi Otto.
I would definitely use a primer usually a light grey before any top coat. Tamiya makes a very fine product just for priming. Look up their web page.
Have a go.
Regards.
Rod.

@jmlaboda  Yes, indeed that is a hooded Type G, (actually a US&S TP-5) which was the main signal used on the Rock Island along with US&S H-2 searchlights. Note that their tri-lights also had the green and yellow in opposite positions compared to the more modern Type G's seen today. Proto pics below:

I've considered doing a revision to my fret design to incorporate individual hoods for the tri-light but I would need to confirm enough interest before making another run with individual hoods.

Maybe you could do a secondary fret instead of redesigning the original? I was going to use slices of coffee stirer straws to make the individual hoods.

Are you still working on the PD hopper project?
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Finally finished up the scenery base on my factory kit bash (sorry about the poor lighting) which started out as a Bergen National Laser Sugar Beet factory module #2.
Now to install it on the layout.  All I have left to do is complete about 8 more tractors.  4 for display out in front as inventory and 4 for a flat car load.

Did you get any of the Farmall decals that Peteski made? They really make the tractors pop.

A local just arrive in a foggy day .  These are borrowed CN units by Canadian Pacific , you don't see that often , it's a "rare" occasion as "rare" on e bay stuff ...
I climbed in a microwave tower to take the picture , I didn't ask permission to anybody because it's my microwave tower , it's only about 6 inches high !

Yep still working on the PD hopper project. A secondary fret would work but the issue isn't making the fret but the cost of tooling. I would need to sell enough retrofit hoods to justify the tooling and also because the tri-light heads are designed for a single hood right now, I would rather revise the target faces to allow for more locating pins if using individual hoods.

Took a trip to Louisville because we've never been here before.

Discovered my new favorite railroad. Conrail holds nothing to this...

Also, many thanks to @cbroughton67 for the info and amazing hospitality. He, his family and his layout are truly first class.

Had some more RGS fun.  I could get used to G scale!

True "cockpit" style layout design!

I think at some point I'd like to add a depot here...

Here's a little video...  The train does slow down significantly when it crosses the trestle because that's the start of the long grade to Lizard Head Pass!  In reality I need more overjoiner connectors (ordered) to ensure better electrical connectivity and something more powerful than the chintzy train set power pack that came with the original Big Hauler.

Oh, and in case you ever wondered what a Bright Boy might look like in G scale, here you go.  It's a Scotch-Brite pad stapled to a 4x4 block:

You must not have any scrub oak.   I just cleaned about 4 pounds of acorns off my deck.  :P

Finally started building the layout I promised my daughter 2.5 years ago:

It's based on the "Family Layout" series David Popp did for Model Railroader  a few years ago. Not to be outdone, I kicked myself down to the basement and started covering the masonite seams and pre-cut a lot of wood. First, the "bulkheads":

Then the plywood tops (making these 4' long to help in moving around/maintenance):

Finally, a few pre-cut pieces for the peninsula, dead-end aisle and a industrial branch:

I'd show the joint compound effort to but I suck at that,

Phil

Nope!  However, you can see my neighbor's aspen tree sending shoots into my railroad...
