"Can someone just measure the deck?"

Jason, that's exactly what I had in mind...  I have one of their bulkhead flats, but no ruler fine enough to measure it.  The smallest I can get is 64ths of an inch, and that gives a very large margin for error.

Time to go to Harbor Freight Tools and get a 6" Dial Caliper for less than $15 bucks.  I have eight, both digital and analog and I would be lost without these invaluable and precise modeling tools....

Or for around $20, an easy-to-read digital caliper.  I have several myself and I too would be lost without them.
Is that drill bit a #73 or a #72?  Hmmm...  :)

Yup, and "Hmmm...how many mils is .46mm?"  That little yellow button gets a big workout some days!

Yes the instant inches/millimeters conversion comes in very handy. I also have a digital caliper which does fractions of inches (in addition to the other 2 modes), but that one is not as often used as the the other ones.

I can't even fathom how every model railroad model builder, kitbashed and scratch builder wouldn't own digital calipers.

Modeled without one for over 25 years.  I do ok.   :P

I didn't have one until 4 years ago - mostly did it from well corrected eyeballs.  Now that I do . . . I'll probably never go back.  thought I do still have to do math to get the conversion right . . . .

I did ok too, but now that I have one it's indispensable.

At less than $13 it pays for itself really quickly. I wouldn't use it if I had to earn my living as a machinist, that's what the $100 ones are for, but it's great for modelling. http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-150mm-Digital-Caliper-Stainless-Steel-Electronic-LCD-Vernier-Micrometer-Guage-/400245715857?hash=item5d3080f391:g:QZ8AAOSweuxWSqGV

I'm actually quite fond of one of Minnesota's greatest exports:

I have a friend who would probably kill to be able to get their Coffee Bender.

I wonder if anyone has contacted one of the digital dial caliper companies to see if the could program in the different scales?

A caliper that could read out N scale feet and inches would be pretty awesome.
