This is true. I hadn't caught that @chicken45 was implying J's on point of a passenger train, for which he must also make the sign of the keystone. My comment was intended as commentary on the J class in general, not to imply that either a J or an I has any business anywhere near a passenger consist, unless it's being passed by one.

Grif Teller (make the sign of the Keystone in remembrance) was never one to let the actual Pennsy get in the way of a good Pennsy painting.   :D

He also famously painted a J on the P&T flyover at Whitford.



No way in hell that ever happened either.

It's said that the J's couldn't clear the Rockville bridge duckunders on the way into Enola.

My K4 is out for delivery! Aaaand to make things better, I'll get my Kato C55/Trixbash back from @wm3798. We'll get together at @seusscaboose 's place and laugh at the better looking but worse running Bachmann.

Here is the PRR ad from September 1948 that proclaimed that "A great fleet of overnight trains in Pennsylvania Railroad's East-West service is now Diesel-powered, west of Baltimore and Harrisburg!"

You may also notice that the ad portrays Baldwin Centipedes and Alco PAs in addition to EMD E7s.  K4s were, however, a very important locomotive for many other PRR passenger trains other than the name trains all the way up to the end of steam in 1957.

I have a couple; #'s 310 (from 1946) and 312. The 312 has the in-boiler smoker. The 310 is a smoother running machine. Both big, heavy and somewhat toy-like...marvelous.
