EVEN more exciting news about B-mann K4

YES!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday, 1361 arrived. She looked and ran wonderfully. I will be buying more. Thank you Bachmann!


Now it's gloating time. 

Congratulations to all those who picked up the "I want a K4" banner. Those who fought against time, year after year, remaining faithful to the task and to those who's voices would not be silenced by the "insiders", the "experts" (even the so called Pennsy "experts"  ) and the random  , who are upset because their forum is know for being full of said  's. and refer to themselves as  .    But I digress, we were told to shut up and to quit mucking up everyones threads with the "I want a K4" non sense. Well today, whether our roll was real or imagined, the victory is ours! 

So, the call rang out, "I want a K4",  to any manufacture, foreign or domestic, and it was answered by a manufacturing great, one who hails from the City of Brothers,    as destiny would have it, the same city in which the mighty Pennsy was headquartered, Bachmann Industries. Yes, there was angst and gnashing of teeth because said manufacture has been know to produce "steaming piles", but not this time. The power of the Pennsy was able to guide Bachmann in producing this iconic, great running steamer(at least mine) and thus preserving the history of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1:160th scale.

ALL HAIL BACHMANN MAKER OF N SCALES PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD'S K4.

As for the 350 hour thing...   

Slim coreless motors with finger brushes may or may not stand up to a lot
of hours of use, and the bearings have to stand the worm load.
A Faulhaber or Maxon can certainly take it.  But those are $100 motors.
(unless you get them from Eldon or on the surplus market)

It's really hard to know what Bachmann's motor can stand up to.   

I am not willing to drop $250 on a Bachmann K4 and run it until the motor quits. 
If it lasts 350 hours, I doubt there will be many complaints.

I have a theorem that most nscale locomotives rarely reach 100 hours run time .. unless they are running day in day out on an ntrack layout.

Has anyone who has a K4 noticed the lack of the sound of the Dynamo?  I am playing around with mine trying to find out if it is so equipped. I seem to remember having an HO Bachmann engine with sound that had it but it had to be configured to go on with a function key instead of coming on with the headlight like the Tsunami decoders do. Haven't had a chance to call Jarrett over at Soundtraxx about this one.

I used to do shows with the Juniata Division, and a full weekend would put about 16 hours on a locomotive if I never swapped it out.  Generally I tried to mix it up, so no one locomotive would run more than about 8-10 hours in a weekend.  My home sessions are generally pretty short; never more than maybe an hour at a time.  If any loco I own has come even close to 350 hours, it's the Kato/GHQ L1s bash that I've had for over a decade.

I don't know how long it would take me in real time to hit 350 hours.
