I've finished my GP40-2 master.  Replaced the grills and fans to backdate it to an early phase.  Being a Chessie modeler I need at least ten of these so it's next in line for the casting pressure pot.



I've also done a lot of milling work for my narrow hood GP35 project.

Only 3 days in and adjusting to the culture shock of trading Calgary for Auckland.   Considering its late winter the weather is great.   Locals are friendly and rugby-obsessed.   Water drains the otherway down the sink (its not a myth).  Took a ferry over to the north shore this morning.   



Not seen any trains yet but have seen some 42 inch gauge track on the commuter lines.

After a long period away from the hobby I have managed to get back to work on some modelling projects.  Following a successful first LokSound installation and evaluation last year, I am wishing to move forward with further installations in the motive power fleet.  To that end, I have prepared a batch of 8x12 speakers with wire leads and styrene enclosures:




The three enclosures in the top of the photograph have received a shallower enclosure (4.5mm) as they are intended for forthcoming RS-3 installations.

A visit to the National Train Show last weekend, meeting up with my BCR modelling friends and our forthcoming train show have rekindled my interest so I am hoping for further progress on the workbench this long weekend.

Long time between updates - but I have been working on the railroad, a bit each day as is my habit.  A long term project is catching up on FVM's production with the eventual goal of eliminating most of my Katos.  This shot shows some of the locos I've recently added:

Nothing this week but my cushioned under frames for the Athearn PS-1 got printed earlier than expected so I'm hoping next week I have have something to show.

And on the layout front, one of my neighbors has a bunch of wood working equipment and said he was willing to build my Waterloo modules.  This would be a huge step since I'm never going to have the time.

Thanks to the peer pressure and a donation from our very own Lee Weldon (@wm3798), I started over on my N scale Seaboard Air Line station project this weekend.  Lee very generously sent me some DPM windows to better represent the arch-top windows on the prototype.  Thank you, Lee!

In the following picture, you can see that I have cut new walls from 0.040" white styrene and started laying out the walls and some of the doors and windows on the plan that Lee also provided to me.  I still have number of windows that have to be cut out of the DPM styrene carriers, but the real fun will be locating and cutting into the walls to fit the windows and doors.  However, I don't have to be perfect, because I will apply 0.020" styrene "brick" veneer overtop these walls once the structure is built.  The veneer will hide the sins in these wall cores.  I did buy a Fiskars rectangular punch which should work well to help cut clean window and door openings into the brick veneer.

Andy, welcome to New Zealand.  If you like Auckland, you'll love the rest of the country, and yes, we love our Rugby, with the World Cup only 2 weeks away, that's all we'll be talking about.  That and changing our National Flag.

Not only does our water flow the other way, you get 2 Father's Days this year.
