I'll wonder allowed...  Is there a Shapeways designer out there that will appease all of the pent up demand for see-through fan replacements for those fan housings that can't be etched?  Like for early Geeps and F units?

I think it's really cool to see all you fellow designers here! As I said before, this is a whole new part of the hobby.

I don't really have any knowledge of the fans on locomotives and I only have one american locomotive on my layout but I think it will be very hard to make fans that look good and are sturdy enough for painting and placement. If you can't etch it you probably can't print it. Having said that I think 3D has a real advantage, you can print some things in one piece that you can't etch or create otherwise.

I think I will make a stab at these, with all of the Cannon & Co. features. I will make the blades and grille etched Stainless Steel, with the housing FUD/FXD and the forking tools WSF or WSF polished, similar to the Cannon & Company HO scale version.

Maybe you could think about a detail set for the Alco Centuries, RSs, and FAs...  Oh, and a C415 would be right up your alley it looks like...

Thanks man! What sort of things would you be looking for in the detail sets? I really like the idea of the C415... what chassis would it fit on?

As far as I know there isn't a US prototype mech that has the 37' 4" bolster spacing needed.  I don't have access to the plethora of Japanese and Euro models to see if one of those might work.

Easiest solution I can think of is shorten an Atlas RS11 chassis by three feet.
