At first, he wasnt too chatty while i was asking about upcoming steamers until i pulled out a couple of my models that ive built. once he knew i was an actual "modeler", we talked about the state of the hobby, what the next n-scale steamer most likely be, and other stuff.
So, first you had to convince him you were a modeler, at an NMRA event? I think you were trying to convey to us he was a good representative for BLI, but that isn't how that sounds!
It was actually during the public show. I have not nor will ever be a part of the nmra. Do you not realize how many people that are in the hobby that just buy crap? Im being completely honest but I see it more and more here on TRW. Way too many people witching and complaining with a decal in the wrong spot or something isn't specifically correct on a mass produced model that was only different on the railroad they like(notice how I didn't say model).Ken was even telling me about some of the complaints he sees, one being an ho CB&Q E8 that somebody didn't like because it didn't have the black lines on the pilot. same loco, same paint scheme, just not late enough for the stripes. this is something easily added with decals. Yes he did like actually talking to someone that built models and tried to replicate the prototype as that relates to manufacturers actually doing research to reproduce a model of the prototype. Its sad to see it but our hobby is moving more towards buying and away from real modeling.Drasko
What elitist twaddleThe impression I get from TRW is that the majority of the complaints about model quality and detail come from the rivet countering 'modellers'.Most of the people like me who 'just buy crap' are simply happy to run their trains and enjoy the hobby. If it wasn't for those of us that 'just buy crap' and enjoy the RTR experience, there wouldn't be a BLI, or any other manufacturer for that matter.
For once, i kinda disagree on this. usually i agree. i actually had a very lengthy conversation with ken at the NMRA convention. At first, he wasnt too chatty while i was asking about upcoming steamers until i pulled out a couple of my models that ive built. once he knew i was an actual "modeler", we talked about the state of the hobby, what the next n-scale steamer most likely be, and other stuff. we had a pretty lengthy n-scale discussion and he was all about me inspecting the mech of that new ugly pennsy steamer he had samples of. i dont think hes a big fan of where the hobby is unfortunately headed in regard to RTR models and people not modeling anymore.

What does that have to do with the fact that he sounds like a poor company representative? A good company representative would take the time to talk to and listen to ANY potential customer. If my company representative displayed such "elitist" behavior, he would be looking for a new job.It wasn't a comment about whatever drum you're beating, just that he sounds like a poor representative, unless I misunderstood the definition of "representative".
It sure sounds like you don't understand me, so I'll try again. If he was representing a mop company, he would still be a poor representative for the company if you first had to prove to him that you were good at mopping.I'm not saying anything one way or the other in relation to the current state on N scale or any other manufacturer, and whether or not they deserve to be lousy representatives. There's no need to convince me of, whatever it is you're trying to say. Keep calm and carry on!
